Cabins are nice. Trails are pretty well marked. There was a horse lost during our stay. The owner and campers from High Knob and Double M were fantastic and went above and beyond to help locate the horse. The day it was lost, JoJo even went out to look. Everyone seemed very compassionate and genuinely concerned.
But the drama that happened to the poor horse owner when it was missing was completely uncalled for. The horse owner had help come in to search for the horse and JoJo rudely and loudly reprimanded her and told her to go home and she would be contacted if the horse was found. Then lied

We went on a quiet weekend and pretty much had the campground to ourselves. Then stalls are well-constructed and safe, I love the wash stalls and the camp host, Jo-Jo is second to none. Helpful, knowledgeable, friendly and caring. If you let her know how long and what kind of ride you want, she'll send you out with a detailed map and directions, and all kinds of fun history to go along with the trails and areas. Our group was out for longer then expected and she came out looking for us to make sure we were ok. I have NEVER experienced that level of care anywhere. The shower house was clean and

Friendly place near High Knob, a notable feature east of nearby Garden of the Gods in Shawnee National Forest. If you are an equestrian with a rig, this place is for you as a base to explore the trails. Accommodating to ordinary campers as well as to backpackers passing through as a water point. Enjoyed a frozen treat and water fill up stop hiking to High Knob from Buzzard Point.

The best place to trail ride if you would want to see something besides trails that just go threw the woods. Every turn will leave you in awe. With camp sites that have water and electric. Stalls to rent, a place to shower, and do laundry. Jo Jo will make sure you have everything you need for a great vacation.

Went to high knob for the week, We have gone once before and loved it, the shawnee national forest is amazingly beautiful. We've heard lots of people do not like the owner (JoJo) But we all agree she is misunderstood, stating she deals with 100's of people a week (some not as smart as others) She talks very clearly, calmly, and VERY descriptive. We honestly didn't understand her much until we really listened. This woman is one of the kindest I've met, she loves her animals, campground, and campers. She got several calls and even personal visits while we were in the office and it is SO understandable

Great experience camping here at off season in mid March with just our pop up camper (no horse). We had water, electric and a quiet spot with a great view of beautiful countryside. The owner, Jo-Jo was very fair, friendly and accommodating to my family. This is predominantly a horse riders campground in beautiful back country with serious infrastructure to accommodate horses. It's beautiful & appointed w/services, but it's not the KOA type. Jo-Jo was right up front with us about the kind of campground we were rolling into so we knew where we stood. She is a salt if the earth personality: honest

Very poor. Sat in line for an hour in 90 degree heat with the horses to check in. The owner lady was super rude! We were packed into sites like sardines and where we were at was surely a fire code violation. If you look at the picture, who ever is in that black ring could not get out in an emergency. I don't think a few others could either. The guy next to us couldn't use his awning because that's the tractor path to get pens. We had to walk through his site to get to our horses. I felt really bad for him.
The trails are really good and marked well. Rocky though but we expected that at Shawnee
