Prior to 1970, converters of packaging materials used solvent based adhesives for making the complex constructions which hold various food and non-food products such as meats, cheeses, snack foods, drugs and cosmetics, pet foods, dry milk, soup mix and on and on. In that year technology came along which allowed the development of water-borne, as opposed to solvent-borne adhesives.

Recognizing the merits of the new technologies in terms of the environment, worker safety, and product protection, Daniel Siegel started Mica Corporation with the objective of providing the packaging industry new water based products which would perform as well as the solvent based materials they would replace.
Services
MICA A-131-X is a high-performance, multi-purpose, waterborne primer for inks, coatings, adhesion promotion and extrusion applications. MICA H-760A is a high-performance, high solids, waterborne primer that can be used as a pre-printing primer, or for promoting adhesion of extruded resins to various supporting films and papers.
MICA water-based primers are an integral part of high quality, multiple layer flexible laminates produced by extrusion coating and lamination. In addition to polyolefin extrudates, MICA primers enhance the bonding of inks, PVdC, SiOx, and other coatings to paper, film, and aluminum foil substrates.
Mica Corporation offers water-based coatings that serve a variety of functions, such as; slip, barrier, matte, oxygen barrier, and heat-seal to aid in the production of high-quality converted products. All MICA coatings are environmentally responsible, safe and easy to use, and have a long storage and pot life.
MICA R-2462-A is a single component, solvent free coating designed to provide oxygen barrier on plastic films. It may also afford resistance to some grease and oils on paper. It is not a primer for extrusion coating. MICA MC-140-A is a water-based heat-seal coating designed for non-woven applications.
MICA MC-634 is an aqueous emulsion designed to be used as an adhesion promoter, or sealing layer, for compostable substrates and extrudates, such as paper, PLA and PHA, and metalized bio-based film. It passes all of the Biodegradable Products Institute's (BPI) rigorous testing requirements, including the ASTM D6400, as a standalone product, which means it completely biodegrades in municipal and industrial composting facilities.
