Our winery is located in a beautiful area of Central Oregon. Couched between the beautiful rock formations of Smith Rock and seven peaks of the majestic Cascade Mountains, our visitors relax on our patio and lawn and soak up our views. Every year we rack wine out of barrels to make our blends prior to bottling.
Every year, some wine is left, as you see here, 6 year barrel aged Cabernet on the floor of our crush pad looking very much like blood. It's a dramatic sight and this we consider our sacrifice to the Greek God of wine - Dionysus. All going well, Dionysus will grant us a beautifully balanced and delicious wine when the cork is popped!

Our winery is located in a beautiful area of Central Oregon at 15523 SW Hwy 97, Culver, Oregon. Couched between the beautiful rock formations of Smith Rock and seven peaks of the majestic Cascade Mountains, our visitors relax on our patio and lawn and soak up our views. Established in 1999, Maragas Winery is the founding winery and vineyard of Central Oregon.
Maragas Winery is a boutique winery making craft wines. Why boutique? Hand crafted wine in smaller lots, just as food prepared to order in smaller quantities, is at its finest. Our focus is on growing fine wine grapes and making complex old world premium wine. Fantastic, you are now about to visit our winery to purchase wine to take home, or to enjoy on our Patio!
Pictured on the left is the art on last year's C.I.A. vintage. Joanne Lattavo painted this self portrait in 1965. This self portrait evokes an emotional picture - contemplative and deep. The art is a permanent exhibit in our Winery which doubles as the Lattavo gallery. This year's "Lattavo" single barrel selection art is pictured on the right.
We farm organically and sustainably. We control predators with farm dogs and we are developing a method of controlling insects with chickens - both of which are why we don't allow visitors' pets to be outside of their vehicles at the winery. So, although we love our pets too, please keep them at home when you visit Maragas Winery.

Thought we would give this winery a try despite the negative reviews because of its proximity to Smith Rock. This was the last stop on a wonderful weekend in Bend. We should taken the Karen comments seriously and kept on driving. The hostess was very sweet, wine was just ok, but all of the patrons were clearly all old white locals. I'm white but my friend is a person of color. She is used to being the only person of color in a room. What transpired toward the very end of our tasting should not be ignored. The winery had a very loud jazz band playing inside. My friend and I sat at the

It is not every day where you meet a Karen in its natural habitat. My recommendation for you - if you absolutely must stop by to taste their wines, get in, and get out. Don't linger, don't stay, and don't try to enjoy yourselves.
We made that mistake of staying a bit outside to enjoy a picnic. In addition to the tasting sets, we also had non-alcoholic drinks for those who prefer not to drink. We got permission from the lady at the counter. The drinks were on the table - yes, there was a sign to not bring in outside drinks, but we got an okay. The owner stopped by and said hi, said

Rude, disrespectful people. My wife called them to ask if we could have a picnic lunch and they said we could have it outdoors. We had tastings and food indoors and bought a couple of glasses to have with our picnic lunch outside. Some staff member came and yelled at us for having our own drinks but not all of us were wine drinkers so we had some soda and juice for those family members. She said: this is a business, not a park! We got out of there immediately. BTW, their wine is not good and WAY overpriced. AVOID.

We stopped in as it was the last winery on our way our of Oregon. I asked to see the tasting menu and saw a limited selection of wines to taste (two of which were not my favorites) and you had to buy a flight for $20 to try them. The $20 was refundable with a two-bottle purchase. This didn't seem like a very good value to me. Not only that, I drove there and a flight is a lot of wine. I would end up pouring most of it out so as not to become impaired.
The wine maker was helping us and after he explained what was on offer, I politely said thank you and turned to leave. He seemed shocked that

For years we've been driving by this winery, always on the way to some other location, not taking the time to stop. We finally changed that yesterday and we're glad we took the time. The tasting room is a really nice setup. You're surrounded by the barrels holding future releases, and beautiful paintings done by the owner's mother. Nice indoor and outdoor seating and a very friendly feel. We enjoyed the wines, nice blends and single varietals with their own flair. Well worth the stop!

Very nice scenery! Friendly and knowledgeable! There were only 5 wines, but we got to try them all for $15 and if you buy two bottles of wine, they will take the tasting fee off. The wines were a little pricey, but we're all very good. They were all pretty dry, so if you like your wine sweet this isn't the place for you!

This winery style of making wine is "old county". We like red wines best. The reds we tasted were quite good. These wines are the type served with food. The one lighter red would be ok as a sipping wine on a warm afternoon outside. Doug was very knowledgeable about his wines, the process and how they differ from mass produced wine. His family has been making wine for several generations. Doug's mother was an artist and there are several of her pieces hanging in the "cellar". Lots of seating, very comfortable place. A surprise find in high desert country!

Traveling from Portland to Bend, this is a refreshing stop. They keep the whole warehouse/tasting room at cellar temperature. If visiting in the summer, it's nice to get out of the heat. The wine tasting costs $10.00 for 4 one once tastings. So very small tasting amounts. Must purchase 2 bottles of wine to have tasting charge waived. Seemed very expensive for the wines offered, the costs of the wines, the amount poured, and the industry standard is only one bottle purchased waives the tasting charge. Staff told us the name of the wine and no other facts. They do not offer any food. They also

My husband and I live in California wine country and are used to a certain style of wine. We lived in the Willamette Valley wine country for many years too. We did not know what to expect from Central Oregon, and were pleasantly surprised, especially with the Blanco! These white grapes are grown on the Maragas property and achieve an unexpected level of ripeness in such a short growing season! Kudos to the grower and winemaker. It was delicious.
Our host for the tasting was one of the owners and she was thorough and attentive. We left with three bottles of Maragas wine -- the Blanco, a rose, and

Hands down the best customer service at any winery I've ever been to (and we like wine tasting)! The wine is great too--mostly old world style and changes seasonally. The scenery is beautiful as well, not a bad place to drink wine.
We were able to meet the winemaker, Doug, while we were there and were so glad we did. I ended up getting faint from being dehydrated due to a hike we did in the morning and Doug went above and beyond what would have been expected. He sat me down, went and got my husband from the car, gave me salt and water. Thanks so much Doug for not only a great wine tasting

Stopped by here on a whim on our trip to Bend and I'm so thankful I did! Joe is one of those people that makes you feel like a long lost family member - you instantly want to be friends with this guy! We tried some amazing wine and left as club members! If you are traveling through, stop by, because you won't be disappointed!

Absolutely the most intimate and awesome vineyard I had the pleasure of visiting while on vacation in Oregon. The nice thing was I was able to take some of my family who lives in the area and had never been before! The farm dog was so friendly, the cheese platter delicious, the wine divine and the staff was hilarious and kind. I will definitely be returning and ordering from out of state!

Such a cute little vineyard. Love the decor inside and the smell, it smells like lavendar. My friends family has a second home not too far from here so we thought we'd try this. I had a flight and my favorite wines was definitely the rose and the sangria. I can't remember the guy's name who helped us but he's tall, country mixed with grizzly Adams, and I believe he said he was in the navy. He was great! Really knew his wines, what it compliments with, and was a great conversationalist. Thank you for letting us try the last bit of "Anna" she was a great one but you

Came by with the family while staying at Panacea at the Canyon just across the way. Wine maker, Doug KNOWS his wine and can drop some serious knowledge bombs if you inquire. He has a true passion that's evident in what he makes.
I'm not a sangria guy, but his secret recipe is like none other!
Fantastic evening out on the lawn. Not to mention bocce ball!

Today was our first visit to the Maragas Winery tasting room at the winery location in Culver. When Maragas had a tasting room in Bend we went there when M Bar - Taverna was open (now closed) but just had not made the 40 minute or so drive to Culver to the winery itself. After today's experience, we regret that it took us so long to make the short drive. To Yeeps and other Peeps, we say if you're in the area, go here for a delightful experience.

I've been driving by this place for a few years now. Usually, it's at the beginning or end of my journey into Redmond and never a convenient time to stop.
On this day, however, we made a special trip to try this place. It's cute as you walk in with the wine barrels all around they have various items for sale, t-shirts, corkscrews, etc.
We were greeted by Steve, a helpful gentleman behind the counter. Steve explained how the Maragas family got into the wine business. Doug Maragas had been exposed to winemaking at an early age. He went on to go to law school and practice in
