This guy is a piece of work .. I called him starting last year around this time OCT and he tells me that it wouldn't be March 2021 for 283 rebuild as he required me to put my name and number on the list for a call back to drop of the engine . Did that. He quoted me $3800-$5000 on the rebuild . Come MARCH 2021 I called him and wondering about the request we had discussed over the phone. He now says it wouldn't be till JUNE 2021 and now the low quote was $5200 for the rebuild. I didn't say anything then and thought I would wait for his call back in JUNE. Twice he said he would call

My Explorer had 200k miles on it and I did not want to trade my engine for a questionable crate engine from a different country.
I opted to have my own engine rebuilt since it's been with me all these years and was still in good shape.
This however, was no easy task as I couldn't find a shop that wanted to rebuild a 4.0 V6 12 valve pushrod Ford engine.
Some shop owners were brusque, some laughed at me and some were downright rude.
Luckily I found Joe's Engine Shop.
When I called, Clay was the only shop owner who took the time to talk to me about my request.
He's a busy man

What can I say about this shop and Clay, the owner? To back up a little I’ve been looking for someone to do the machine work on my 1970 z28 engine. I had talked to several other shops that were both astronomical in price and couldn’t give me a solid timeline for completing the work. One even argued with me as to what work I wanted done!
I went to Joe’s engine shop and talked to clay (the owner). He’s friendly, Easy going, has all the proper equipment to build a high quality racing motor, and was perfectly fine with the planned machine work. His price was significantly cheaper than the

Wow, the service here is incredible! Now I know nothing of engines, my husband was working on our boat engine and I was tasked with picking up some parts from Joes engine shop. The guy at the front desk was amazing, he was helpful and extremely flexible with my requests. He answered all questions and even helped weeks later when we called with an issue. I will never go to another shop, keep up the good work guys!! Thanks a ton!

I had an aluminum cylinder head with a couple of very stubborn valve guides that I hadn't been able to remove myself, and had mangled pretty badly while trying.
Having run out of ideas, I took it to Joe's to see if they could salvage the head. They told me they'd see what they could do, but could promise anything; and I appreciate that kind of honesty.
They were able to get the guides out, charged a small fee, and recommended that I let them resurface the head after showing me where I'd put a few dents in the mating surface trying to pound the guides out. I agreed, and

First of all I did not get any work done here but I can say if I had the chance I would have. I had an issue with a repair shop and found out they were not capable of finishing the job.I spoke to Joe's Engine shop and it was light night and day. they were honest and upfront and explained to me that I would have to wait due to they only worked by schedule so they can dedicate their time in poviding the best Engine. They were also very professional about what thy would provide. I know if I ever get another Classic car I will first check with these guys. if you dont believe me all you have to

Some time ago, I took in the pistons and a block to get it finish honed. I was asked several questions about how the engine would be used. The one thing I was not asked was about whether I would be drag racing it. I missed that detail myself. It will see extensive track duty.
Fast forward to a good time later, when I finally started assembling the engine. The piston-to-bore clearance was correct for street use, but not drag racing. Fortunately, I found my receipt and took the block back to Joe's, The counterman was naturally skeptical about my claim, but after a short discussion, he said they

Very nice guys.. I had a bearing pressed into a steering knuckle and my forcing bolt stripped halfway through the hub press. I found this shop and walked in with the knuckle. Clay took a look at the piece, put it on the press, and finished the job. They didn't charge me and continued to answer a few questions I had. Highly recommended due to their generosity and professionalism for someone who wasn't even paying.. I will recommend them to friends in the future.

I've had a couple motors rebuilt by Joe in the past. He and his crew have never let me down. I've never had to worry about being over charged and the communication and timelines have always been spot on. When my next motor needs a refresh after the racing season Joe is going to get my business again.

I personally brought Joe's Engine Shop my '67 Pontiac 400 motor, it had value to me as it was the original numbers matching block to the car and the only damage to it was from a spun rod bearing and from sitting on an unprotected garage floor, the outside of the block was very rusty.
Joe himself recommended I "just get another motor", and also that "this motor will never run again".
Oh really?
Once I brought this motor to a competent engine builder, the block was acid dipped and looked like new, in fact the block internally was so nice and low miles it was honed

I have had an auto repair shop for the past 20 years so I depend on having a good machine shop. I have been using Joe's for most of those 20 years. I feel fortunate to have found him. Machining is a critical part of doing a job and the machinist opinion and his workmanship requires trust and consistency for me to be successful.
I would, without reservation, vouch for Joe's integrity and quality of workmanship. His shop is neat, well organized and prompt. He has told me when machining was not going to work and when he has done the work the price is very fair.
