Last week I was on a road trip from Florida to Colorado and it just so happened there was a tornado happening during the travel on I-70 through Kansas.
My sister and I decided we would make our way to Russell where the road was closed. All roads entering Colorado were closed.
We were in the process of hauling furniture. In 90 mile an hour winds.
We were looking for shelter and happened to pass a hotel and a hardware store. We decided to park under the shelter of the hotel, and attempt to run inside.
The door was locked but the lady was there waiting to battle the winds to let us in. She was

Found this place doing a little research online. Old school and off the beaten path. The place is old but inviting with all the comfort of home. Russell is an old town with brick streets downtown. Staff was welcoming and very helpful. The country style breakfast in the morning was delicious and kept us full most of the day. King room with a new bathroom 80 bucks a night. Loved it! Thanks

Outstanding service, outstanding breakfast! Personally, I enjoyed the character of the room - my only expectation is clean and it was. The room is old fashioned but well kept. I purposefully drove past the chain hotels that display white towels and comfy pillows, but feel less clean. I’m so glad I did.
At breakfast, they assume you’re going yo want a large drink, plus there is actually sausage in the sausage gravy! ….and DONUTS!

Amazing hotel! Very homey and pet friendly. The office staff are amazing! Had some issues with my car and needed to borrow some tools and they helped us out. Definitely stay here if you are coming through Kansas you won't find a better place.

A great value in a roadside motel. It's not fancy, the beds aren't the best, and you won't get a ton of fluffy white towels, however you can back right up to your room, unpack, and get some quality rest in a casual atmosphere. It's clean enough, the breakfast was fantastic, the staff is friendly, and the pool was great. I'd stay here again over the modern human filing cabinet style motels, any day of the week.

I’m not comparing this to a big city hotel, but for the location and hotels in the area I’d give it 4 stars. Yes, the rooms were dated and showed wear but the staff was very good and the breakfast was also! We went to check it out , expecting to grab a piece of fruit but found homemade egg/bacon casserole and Denver omelets. The staff was in top of cleanliness too! We travel with our dog and they were very accommodating with a low pet charge. All in all, we will definitely stay again on our trips across I70.

Great find, and would definitely stay again. Front deskman, Jeffrey, was terrific. Room was older, yes, but clean. Bed was awesome, and we slept like babies. A bit worried, as the folks with kids in front of us at check-in were given 211 and we were in 111 right below. But didn't hear a thing from overhead. "Continental" breakfast included waffles, biscuits and gravy, sausage, Denver omelettes and egg casserole, along with the usual cold offerings. What continental??!! Very good, too. Saltwater pool we didn't get to try. Entire staff friendly and tries to make your stay

This place was a gem in the middle of nowhere. For starters, everything was super nice and well maintained, from the pool to the rooms, to the entryway.

The staff were all super friendly as well. The guy at the front desk who greeted us was super helpful, the woman who managed the towels and bedding was just great and friendly.

The continental breakfast was pretty good too, and the woman who served it was super generous.

The staff is very friendly. The lobby is pretty and homey. They have a very good breakfast. My only complaint is the room we stayed in was gross! Stains all over the floor. Carpet was not vacuumed. We wore our shoes the whole time. Tub and shower curtain was gross. Pet/“human” hair and dirt on sheets. No room between beds and wall. They definitely need to put some major effort in the cleanliness of the rooms! I felt disgusting when I left. Good thing it was just a quick overnight stay.

Stopped over when the roads turned to ice and highway became impassable. All other hotels we contacted were doing sketchy things like not honoring online bookings due to the influx of walk-in traffic, but these folks were honest and accepted our reservation over the phone without price gouging. They even kept our room after we ran several hours late due to only being able to drive 10-20 mph on the highway. The proprietor was extremely friendly and helpful, even giving us a new jug of windshield washer fluid when we inquired about where we could buy some. Room was basic but perfectly acceptable

Of the nearby motels I am thankful for my choice. The rooms are clean and the continental breakfast was good. And the rooms are reasonably priced.

Looks like it's been updated.

The only downside is the door seal isn't complete. Wind blows in through the cracks.

The AC didn't get cold enough.

1st time we drove from Denver to Dallas we spent a fortune for a hotel in Hays, and it was the worst hotel I had ever stayed in. The next time I drove straight thru - not recommended. The 3rd time, I lucked out and called the Russell Inn. Ginormous big comfy bed, cookies up front where the person was incredibly sweet, and a free breakfast where they let you fill your travel mug with hot coffee and vanilla syrup. I've stayed here numerous times now and it's the only hotel for me on I-70. Rooms are clean, comfortable, and have a refrigerator, microwave and coffee pot. TV seems decent but

Are you kidding me!! I thought I stepped into a bad dream or a movie where they take people to hide them out. This place was awful!! The front lobby was well decorated and lite. But once you go to the room and find your outside door not latched shut, chills run up your spine . Then you look around to see many rooms aren't latched shut. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. To give it the benefit of the doubt I checked out the rooms. The smell is unreal!! We returned the key and went up the road. Sorry some places you truly have to judge the book by its cover.

Clean. Affordable. Super comfy beds.

The woman at the front desk was personable and made us feel welcome. They also had a candle that smelled like fall. And cookies! It was like going to your friend's house.

The breakfast menu looks really good. All I care about, though, is the waffles.

Happy we stopped here.

This review is an update from a year ago where we had s better stay. The facility is still undergoing a renovation. We had a room that was to have been renovated but the bathroom was not as it looked like a bathroom in a room that had not been.

The best part of the stay was a good air conditioner and a reasonably comfortable bed. Also there the TV has a good selection of channels.

The breakfast was varied but basic.

Had this place charged what the across the street charges this review would be two stars.

Spent a a night here on our way to MO. Yes the cosmetics leave something to be desired but it's very clean and comfy. You can't beat the pricing and my boys loved the area. On our way home we stopped in Salina. We will not make that mistake again. Russell Inn all the way.

For the price, hard to beat.

I got a room for $44. The bed was crazy comfy. Man, I slept well. The A/C cranked out plenty of cold. The free continental breakfast included some tasty biscuits and gravy. The internet works just fine. Also, plenty of parking. I was here with a 26ft Uhaul truck towing a vehicle, and there was enough parking space, even though the hotel was pretty full.

The place could use some cosmetic work. It is showing its age, but for the price, it exceeds expectations.

All the other places to stay in town pale in comparison to the awesomeness that is this inn. The people there are nicer than any other hotel around. Rooms and building are awesome. But the people that helped me out today make me want to give ten stars. The best.

First the bad:
Signs off of I-70 say $32.95. For two people, the price goes up to $44.95. Lighting around the parking lot is poor and the rooms are very modest. Breakfast is quite meager.

The good:
Free wifi (though it is slow). Simple breakfast is also free. Plenty of parking. About half the price of the other places on the street. Most importantly: friendly managers are very accommodating.

Clean beds, nice amenities, very cheap. We were recommended here by the waitress at "Made From Scratch" (it's about 20 miles east, in Wilson - HIGHLY recommend), and it appears to be "the place" as far as locals are concerned. Surprisingly big too, all brick construction, two floors, lots of wings - and yet, cheap.

Also has a nice little breakfast in the morning - stuff like biscuits and gravy, in addition to your usual dry cereal fare.

No wifi, if that matters particularly to you. The price is INSANELY good, though, so don't let that send you elsewhere (and the

On a road trip and being named Russell, had to make our stop in quiet Russell, Kansas. This is a large, clean establishment located several blocks from the interstate. Not much happening in Russell, but that's a good thing with a big soft bed to crash in. We met DJ (owner and his wife) in the morning and enjoyed tea and cookies with these hard working innkeepers.
We explored downtown and found out Bob Dole is from there. This is heartland America with wide streets and vistas across the prairies everywhere we looked.

If you're looking for a place to sleep and shower, look no further. We were first attracted to the Inn by several billboards advertising rooms here for 32.95 along I-70. We arrived at 1AM and the lady at the front desk said all those rooms were gone but there was a king size bed available for 42.95. Still a good deal! Based on the full parking lot I believe that she wasn't just trying to upsell us (queen size bed rooms are 32.95). She was very friendly and helpful.

Though our room was "non-smoking," when we first walked in the scent of cigarettes was lingering. I cranked up
