Gila Hot Springs Campground
Gila Hot Springs Campground is a private business owned by Allen and Carla Campbell. It offers camping and natural hot spring pools beside the Gila River in southwest New Mexico. We are located 40 miles north of Silver City and about 4 miles from the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument. Our area is surrounded by the Gila Wilderness and the larger Gila National Forest.

The hot springs bubble out of rocks on property owned by the Campbell family. The springs vary in temperatures from 147 to 154 degrees F. and are considered sweet springs (no sulfur odor). These springs have been used by the Campbell family since the 1940s. Other local businesses are Doc Campbell's Post, an interesting country store, and the Gila Hot Springs Ranch and RV park.
Services
Gila Hot Springs Campground was started in 1992 by Allen and Carla Campbell. The idea was to create a place for the general public to have access to the natural hot springs and to also provide camping facilities. Since its inception, the campground has taken on a personality of its own, thanks in part to our return customers.
We use self-registration when you arrive. It is up to you to fill out an envelope, include the appropriate fee, and drop it into the letterbox. Proceed to the campsite noted in your reservation. A caretaker will be around several times a day to make change if necessary. Please note We cannot accept credit or debit cards.
The hot springs campground has three pools with natural rock perimeters and gravel bottoms. Each pool has its own personality and temperature so you are sure to find one that pleases you. The normal temperature of the pools is between 101 and 104F. There are twelve camping areas spaced for privacy and are located around shade trees.
Gila Hot Springs Campground is located about 40 miles north of Silver City, New Mexico and four miles south of the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument. If you are using your GPS, the Gila Cliff Dwellings should be a usable POI for directions - but we are about four miles before the Dwellings. Traveling westbound, the best route will be from I-25.

Wow. Don’t expect any help from the owners. We called because we did not have wi-fi, nor a phone that would allow us to make online reservations ( yes, there are still some of us out there) the man I spoke to was incredibly rude, obnoxious & patently uncaring. They don’t give a darn about customer service. Stay somewhere else.

NOT RELAXING AT ALL: I wanted a nice relaxing time and it was anything but. There was a couple who the wife never shut up and was so loud when she talked. Seemed to be regulars as the owner joined right in with the conversation. There were only two pools available but even if the third was open, they are so close to each other you cannot get away from the loud people, so no peace and quiet. So loud couldn't even read my book. (I would have left but I already paid and no refunds. Plus I would have had to address the noise to the owner who was participating in the noise right in front of the loud

The drive there and the actual look of the place is so peaceful but once you get out it’s a different story the man owner was in the front collecting money with his wife whispering stuff in his ear and pointing at us as we’re walking up, it made my friends and I very uncomfortable, he was very rude to us because we had a child like if he was worried she was going to misbehave, but we were actually the quietest group there the pool next to us this couple was so loud splashing and making a lot of noise and he didn’t do anything about it. Now to the water, I’ve been to a lot of hot springs

The water was disgustingly dirty (I’ve been to very clean hot springs so it was just this one) and the rocks inside the hot spring really hurt. Owner was not welcoming or polite at all. In fact she was very rude, she made it a very uncomfortable stay. From the moment our car pulled up to the hot springs it was an uncomfortable and weird experience. Do not come here!!

This is an awesome place. Almost don’t want to share it. Let me save you some time and share how it works. You can just show up and use the hot springs as “day use.” They have reservations and walk up for camp sites. It’s best to go to their website and request a date. You could also just test your luck and show up and see if a space is available on the board. Don’t bother calling - you’ll never reach anyone and they won’t call you back.
The water was hot and the place is a little oasis.

A really clean campground with three amazing hot spring pools. Each pool has a different temperature long with its own ambience. The water is clean and is such a relaxing experience.
This is also a day use are if you want to only stop by for a soak. There are restrooms but no running water as expected at any campground. I look forward to future visits here.

July 3 we arrived at 9:16 a.m. to save our space and secure our entrance to soak in springs for the day. All the information we needed was found clearly posted on pay station,(cash only). A friendly lady greeted us and was there to give us more info. Currently u able to soak in 2 hour slots, limit 6 persons.
