Services
Base Camp at Golden Gate Canyon is a family owned campground located between Black Hawk and Golden, Colorado. The park was originally built in 1969. When we acquired the property, it was in need of some major TLC. We immediately began making improvements. The store was gutted and remodeled within the first three weeks of business.
Don't have an RV and don't have a tent? No problem. You can rent one of our 13 camping cabins. All of our camping cabins have bunk beds and a double bed and sleep up to four people. 12 of our camping cabins feature heat and electricity. One of our camping cabins does not have heat or electricity and rents for $15 less than the others.
If you are in an RV or pulling a trailer, the best way for you to get here from the Denver/Golden area is to take I-70 West to Hwy 58 West to US Hwy 6 West. Take US Hwy 6 West up Clear Creek Canyon to CO Hwy 119. Go North on CO Hwy 119, through Black Hawk, to approximately mile marker 12.5 and turn right onto CO Hwy 46 (Golden Gate Canyon Rd.)
Wildlife: It's not every day that you can look a few feet away and see wildlife up close and personal. On any given day, you might be delighted by a moose, deer or elk sighting. The delightful buzz of humming birds can be heard frequently throughout the grounds. The Gilpin County Community Center is across the street and up the road a short distance from the campground.

Staff is friendly. There is no highway noise. The store is wonderfully stocked. Bathrooms are nice. Showers cost $.50 for 3 minutes. The grounds nearby are an exquisite place to take a short hike. Cabins are way too close to each other. If you like anything other than a hard mattress be sure to bring extra bedding. Overall, a great place to get away.

What an amazing place. We had to find a spot to camp with not much notice. After many hours of searching we were lucky and found Base Camp. Very affordable, extremely clean, very accessible, and the staff was fantastic. The store is amazing and not over priced. The wash sinks, laundry room, bathrooms, & showers were spotless. Cleaned everyday. I wish I had remembered to take photos. We will be coming back!

We loved this place!!! Very good price for the services you receive. We stayed the first 4 days in a tent site, they are very small and closer together than I'm used to, they are also located right next to a decently busy road but none of that mattered in my opinion. We slept just fine and got to enjoy a fire every night regardless of people or vehicles. The campsites also have a grill available. The last night we ended up getting a cabin, Cheryl was very nice & helpful in helping me switch from tent to cabin. We liked the cabin as well! They are very cozy and cute! I dont know if they are all

Base Camp was stocked with all the amenities, friendly staff and great views. Aspen trees are going to start changing any day, mountain flowers blooming everywhere, the camp is nestled in nature between the national forest and state park!
They even have a gas station at the same price we got gas in town. The store had everything we wanted, plus more, including warm long sleeve shirts for cool evenings and Colorado cowboy postcards for the family. There was even a playground/ photo op for kids and a liquor store for those interested in drinking.

Place is very convenient and clean. They have a liquor store and gas station at the front office. Showers and bathrooms are very clean. They are very helpful staff, grant it the sites are cramped next to each other, sites very in size. We got a site that nearly fit our tent and they were very helpful to switch sre sites for a bigger site. Sites are pretty tight together, but remember, this place is called base camp, its more of a spot to sleep at after adventuring for the day around the mountains. The wifi is horrible, so you won't get service till your by the office or using the bathroom. So wifi

Must cancel six days before scheduled stay for refund which was impossible as we reserved the night before. We were kind enough to other campers to cancel our RV spot that day before 6p without even a partial refund. Called back later and found out they were able to "sell" our spot and make double. Owner seems a little greedy due to higher prices for anything. Staff was great. Should have read the other reviews more carefully; this place seems to be a parking lot next to a highway. Hope your experience is better than ours.

This place is great! Very clean and well-maintained, and they even have laundry machines and showers you can pay to use. Their cabins are heated, which was great for us because our summer trip with a baby turned out to be super cold. My only complaint is that the fire pits are super small. Especially because the wood they sell at the store is much too large for the firepit.
