Hawarden Family Medical Center is Dr. Monte Harvey, Teri Osterkamp, ARNP and the nurses and staff who work together to provide health care to the rural areas of northwest Iowa and southeast South Dakota. Philosophically, we are dedicated to providing quality, common sense health care with an emphasis on the patient.
We are the ONLY independent provider of family medical care in Sioux County. This means we are not owned, controlled or directed by any hospital, insurance company or special interest. We even do special treatments such as hair loss treatment using the medication finasteride.

In July of 1979, I joined Dr. Daggett and Dr. Eneboe in the clinic next to the hospital, what was then simply called Hawarden Medical Clinic. We each had an independent practice with individual staff and some common expenses. It wasn't always harmonious, but we managed. Throughout my 17 years in the clinic, it was profitable and we generated revenue to the hospital through rent paid.
The clinic was constructed in 1995 by Dr. Harvey when he was evicted from the clinic by the hospital. It has six exam rooms, a procedure room and office space. Wide halls, open spaces and wood trim try to remove some of the antiseptic institutional feel common to many medical offices. The facility mirrors our medical philosophy, good care with a personal touch.
Dr. Harvey came to Hawarden in 1979, recruited in Des Moines by 'then-' hospital administrator Mike Lanctot (remember him?) and a community committee of Bud Brown, Tom Tilgner, Harlan Hummel and others. Dr. Harvey knew Hawarden from his college days. He joined Dr. Eneboe and Dr. Daggett. Over the next 17 years, Dr. Daggett and Dr. Harvey worked with many providers.
Every emergency should be seen as soon as possible (in the clinic or the emergency department). We will try to work around your schedule with noon and evening hours and Saturday morning appointments. In an effort to live by these goals, we would ask that you please notify us if you are running late or are unable to keep your appointment.
