Services
Since 1982, the Madison County Volunteer Lawyers Program (MCVLP) has changed the lives of thousands of low-income women, children, and men throughout Madison County. A private 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, the MCVLP is the State's oldest pro bono legal services program.
The MCVLP promotes access to justice by inspiring volunteer attorneys to provide high-quality education, advocacy, and representation at no charge to low-income families with basic civil legal needs at critical times in their lives.Our history proves that equal access provides direct social and economic benefits to low-income families and their communities.

Each year, more than 1,000 people receive legal advice or representation from our program. Get the help you need, apply now! MCVLP strives to be the last call someone has to make to get help; we either help clients directly through one of our projects, or we identify the very best resource available to help them.
MCVLP provides legal assistance to non-profit community organizations whose primary purpose is to serve disadvantaged, low-income residents in Madison County and which do not have the financial resources to retain private counsel. We are unable to accept contested divorces, fee-generating cases, Traffic Court cases, EEOC/Discrimination cases, or criminal matters.
Eligible Madison County residents may also receive assistance through the MCVLP's special projects. Through the Bankruptcy Assistance Project, MCVLP volunteer lawyers provide guidance and education to debtors who cannot afford to hire a lawyer and are contemplating filing for bankruptcy. Volunteer attorneys working with the MCVLP provide education about the bankruptcy process, in addition to counsel and advice, prior to filing.
