Discovery High School
To accomplish our mission, DHS has designed a revolutionary building plan, one that deviates from the standard, while maximizing a 21st century environment. Outdoor breakout space will be included with each classroom to maximize the Florida weather and environment. Academic buildings will be broken into content focuses: STEM building will house all math, science, technology, and engineering classes.

Humanities building will house all literacy-based classes such as English, Social Studies, Foreign Language, and electives.
Services
In opening our high school, we want to exceed the needs of our students while remaining unique. In researching what our students will need, we determined that post-secondary options are their greatest concern.

We will have students from a variety of backgrounds: some will seek to attend ivy league colleges, some will want to enter the job force upon graduation, others will enter the military, and many will want to attend one of the many excellent 2 and 4 year colleges within the state of Florida. All of these students will need to accomplish these goals in a 21st century environment.
DHS is located at 640 Evenhouse Rd. in Lake Alfred, FL. We have purchased 55+ acres and are in the process of building an 80,000 square foot campus to house our students. We chose this location because the property is adjacent to the current school, Discovery Academy. This will allow us to serve the same student population areas as the middle school, and allow both schools to share needed resources.
At DHS, our educational model will benefit students with diverse backgrounds and interests. Due to the high level of choice at DHS, we will be able to ensure that many student interests are addressed. In addition, those students with diverse backgrounds will also highly benefit from the curriculum compared to local high schools.
Our authorizer is the Polk County School Board who is the only entity capable of authorizing our charter. Our organization has maintained a 14-year relationship with the county including multiple renewals. We have consistently maintained a productive relationship with the county and look forward to expanding this relationship as our organization grows.
Full-Time Drivers for the 2021-22 School Year In order to apply, you must have a CDL license with a Class A or B which includes school bus/passenger endorsements. Applicants need to be willing to attend a county mandated training class to become certified, if not currently eligible to drive for the Polk County School District.

Deplorable Administration!!!!
I implore anyone with a current student or considering sending their student to Discovery High School to heed all the warnings noted in these reviews. These reviews are an accurate representation of this despicable facility. The place does not even deserve the title of "School". You will note a common theme throughout the reviews. Horrible Administration! The administrators, guidance counselor, and director of this school are the worst people I have ever encountered as a parent. Their extreme lack of respect and caring for both students and their parents is appalling

The school looks nice and new. Shows excellent potential for good education.
But that is just outward appearance. Read students review. They know best what the school is like. Most of them say the school doesn't know how to handle parents and prospective teachers. The staff team do not have professional etiquette. They will not inform or contact you about any news regarding you. They will only contact you if it serves their interest. Very selfish and unethical.
I recently got into a phone conversation with the Executive Director and was cut off by her. I was just asking a question and then she

As a student currently getting an education here, I know more about what goes on than the average parent concerned with the school. To begin with, the freedom is limited severely compared to every other high school. For instance, you cannot even have a book bag at the school and are only allowed the bag they give or any bags similar which break easily and does not hold too much anyways. You get sent to the office if you're caught and you have to keep the bag up there all day if you have one, which I believe is not the brightest idea as it is a pointless rule and book bags have more durability as

Good school, better then the zoned school our son was zoned for. However I wish the school would inform parents better of what is going on, update their website and the parent portal. I realize in high school you are preparing them for the real world, but some children need a little extra guidance. This is the first year and they did pretty good . I can only hope for better next year.

**UPDATED SEE BELOW**
This school is determined to drive itself into ruin. The administration has their priorities backwards and refuses to admit that they have no clue how to run a high school. They will not listen to their teachers or students when they give criticism. They focus more on things like how to prevent the students from physical contact rather than the blatant bullying and disrespect that happens at this school. With no discipline system, the administration pretends they have everything under control, ignoring the fact that at least four teachers have quit due to the inability to

One of the best schools in Polk county in my perspective; I send my kids to this school because of how they use organization and discipline.
