With the warm weather and longer days arriving, we were able to finally get a group shop ride in afterhours. It was the perfect way to end an extremely busy. For this weeks customer spotlight, I was able to talk to local rider Matt Swift and get to know a bit about him and his passion for cycling. Northampton Bicycle has served the Pioneer Valley with all of its cycling needs for over 45 years.
We remains under the same ownership as when we first opened our doors in 1971 (pictured above, far right, is our proud owner Gerard Paquin, in the early days!). You can find our bicycle shop - which now has a cafe serving beer, wine, cocktails, and coffee - at 319 Pleasant Street, in the same plaza as the UPS Store.

Everything about this store is excellent. Leila is an amazing manager, she accommodates customers to a whole new level. I have been buying here since 1986 when I was a teenager. We recently purchased a bike but had to exchange for a smaller size, she did no questions asked. Best bike shop in Western MA. Plus we got an excellent trade value for our bike on an upgrade!!

I thought I had reviewed noho bikes before! Went in as a noob & Leila was just, The Best! Showed me the basics & just loved her energy: warm, friendly, efficient, confident in my ability to recreate what she showed me!! Now i am Slowly wiggling my way out of the 7% of adults who dont know how to ride a bike! It is thrilling! Thank you!!

Moved to Northampton recently and tried NB on the advice of a fellow rider.
I brought one of my mtb in for a major tune-up. The mechanic whom I dropped off to pointed out a couple problems that I hadn't noticed, and called me later with something else that turned up during repairs.
I picked up the bike today. I got a solid go-over in addition to a significantly lower price than I would expect from the shop I used back in CT.
I will return.
Edit 11/21: Consistently excellent mechanics. Very low staff turnover. Recommend.

I had brought my road bike in twice but didn't feel that the proper repairs/adjustments were sufficiently completed. Third visit, I was introduced to Neal (Neil?) who spent considerable time diagnosing and adjusting the front derailleur to the point where I felt was it was tuned correctly. Additionally, he took the time to explain some things that I could be doing for better shifting and maintenance. Would definitely recommend Neal for any bicycle repairs.

Ive bought a few bikes in my time and Ive always got them fitted when I purchased. First the bike is a nice bike. The staff were friendly. I call to get a fitting and I thought since I spent a good deal of money on the bike it would be a part of the purchase just like other places where Ive bought bikes before. I was told I need to ride the bike first when its difficult to do in the winter and the staff told me it the fitting is expensive. Secondly, I'm going away and need to use the bike but still no offer to get a fitting. So 5 stars on the bike and 1 star for after service. So off to another

Northampton bike has been a staple of Northampton for years, for good reason. Their staff are kind, helpful, and responsive. The inventory of parts clothes and bikes that they carry in the store is reasonably priced, carefully selected, and all high quality.
The store has been expanded in the past couple of years and is truly gorgeous and comfortable. Whether you need a new bike, parts, or service, Northampton Bike is an excellent choice.

I love this place to pieces. I was visiting the area for the first time and found out they had stopped their rentals for covid. Eager to spend days on the trails, a friend gave me her beaten up old cannon dale. The brakes and gears needed adjusting badly. The amazing crew here let me bring the bike over same day to take a look and for $15 the mechanic fixed the bike enough that it's taken me thru three happy days of riding. I can't thank this shop enough! Definitely support them!

I cannot express how grateful I am for the folks at Northampton Bicycle, especially Leila! I am so impressed with the above-and-beyond customer service we received yesterday. We were driving down to Northampton from Becket to ride the bike path and as soon as we got off the highway we hit a speed bump and our bike rack and bikes went flying off the car. One bike seemed fine, and one had a major bent handlebar. The rack was caput. With a quick google search, I called Northampton and Leila immediately offered me advice and even helped my emotional distress by offering concern. She really helped me

Purchased two E bikes in August, good selection of bikes, not good service, had to finish sales with another associate ,
was not impressed, spent over $5,000.00 on nice bikes. Now, 500 miles on bikes one needs first tuneup, was supposed to be free, NOT! was told minor adjustment ok,but anything more not feee. I feel first tuneup should include complete service including wheel tweaks, chain service, cables adjusted, and all lubricant
The one time I visited store for a spare master link, I was given an attitude and not sure why, I think he thought I was someone else, still no reason for the attitude

I'm recommending this bike shop to all my friends in SF and the bay area who are travelling to Western Mass this summer and don't want to ship their bikes from home. They were really good with helping me find the store and adjusting my rental bike. I was also impressed they rent a high quality Cannondale Synapse which was perfect for our tour. I look forward to seeing them again when I tour at the end of summer.

SUPER knowledgeable & SUPER friendly staff, great bikes, great customer service, and a fantastic selection of bikes, helmets & other stuff and a shop. Great EVERYTHING! LEILA helped us, we wanted to rent a tandem to do the Norwottuck Rail Trail but we'd never been on one before. Leila brought a bike out, explained how things worked (tandems are a little different) and suggested we ride around the parking lot to be sure "tandem" was the right fit for us. Very happy with the service we received at Northampton Bicycle. They offer comprehensive tune ups for the not so experienced biker. The tech walked me through the proper way to adjust my bike and remove the tire. The sales associate offered a variety of options for seats with differing in price points. I appreciate their attention to detail and the way they don't have pretentious attitudes like other bike shops- they also offer free air outside and a nice water cooler inside next to a comfy couch!

Well, I don't know how good there merchandise is, but I was really put off by the fact that their dedicated parking lot (with a sign that says it is for Northampton bicycle customers only), did not have a bike rack!
When I asked the sales person, she nonchalantly told me I could have used the railing (to a staircase outside the store going to the second floor of the building), which I had. She continued in that vein by saying that people with fancy bikes can take them inside the store.
Excuse me, this a a BICYCLE STORE. I expect a bike rack!
