Solar Kauai
Solar Kauai, established and licensed in Hawaii in 1982, has installed over 8,500 residential solar water heating and power systems including large scale commercial systems such as the Kauai Civic Center, Kapaa Fire Station, Pacific Missile Range Facility, and Bellows Air Force Base. Owner, Paul Lucas, received his AeroSpace Engineering degree in 1969 from the University of Pittsburgh.

He worked as an engineer for Bechtel Engineering Company and then shifted his focus to alternative and sustainable energy. He became an engineer for one of the first solar companies in the United States, Solar Energy Heating in San Rafael, California. After three years with Solar Energy Heating Paul decided to found his own company in 1980 in San Francisco.
Services
Solar Kauai has been dedicated to providing our island with the highest quality solar service. Solar Kauai was founded in 1979 and was the very first solar company on the Garden Isle. With close to 40 years of operation and over 8,000 solar systems installed, our expertise and experience speaks for itself.
Solar Power Systems (PV) produce energy from sunlight. A cost-effective easily installed system can generate all of the electricity required to run your home. During the sun-lit hours of the day the system produces power for your home as well as excess power that is sold back to the utility company (KIUC).
Solar modules (panels) mounted on the roof or grounds of your property convert sunlight into DC power. This power is sent to a device called an Inverter (or power converter) which converts the DC Power from the Solar Modules to AC Power identical to that being sent to you from the Utility Grid. Below is an example of the type of inverters Solar Kauai recommends, a SMA Central Inverter.
Thousands of homeowners in Hawaii reap the advantages of solar electric systems by reducing their current and future electric costs. You're already paying for electricity, but what tangible benefits do you have to show for it? Become an owner, not a renter, and invest in your own green power plant.
There is a 30% Federal Tax Credit, and on top of that there is a 35% Hawaii State Tax Credit for residential homes or up to $500,000 for commercial business. Line tied systems are typical and require no batteries or generators cost approximately $5,000 per kilowatt installed. Off grid systems that require large battery banks and backup generators typically cost about $8,000 per kilowatt for a complete installation.

We had Solar Kauai install a PV system on our place and every step of the process was first rate. Elliot was great to deal with, always available on the phone and explained everything clearly.
The workmanship and attention to detail was exceptional and they handled any changes we made throughout the process with ease....in short, nothing was a problem. Elliot has also been great with follow up and after sales service. These guys ROCK....!

Great pricing and took the time to explain my options. Did not feel like they ever tried to oversell me on the PV system.
