Physical: Coordination, balance, strength, flexibility, and agility. Cognitive: Listening skills, concentration, persistence, and ability to follow instructions.
Gymnasts for this class are selected to prepare for our Xcel Gymnastics Team. Gymnasts in Xcel Bronze will find an increase in strength and flexibility work, as well as perfecting the basic skills essential for competitive gymnastics. From January through April, Bronze gymnasts have the option to compete.
The USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic program was developed with the belief that all athletes, regardless of their potential, must have a solid foundation of basic skills in order to advance safely. The program allows the gymnast to advance at her own pace, competing in more than one level in a year, if she so chooses.
Twisters has been the leader in the state of Iowa within the Xcel Program since the program started in 2009, and has produced numerous local, State, and Regional champions, both at the individual and team level. The Xcel Program is a division of USA Gymnastics that is designed to offer a broad-based, affordable competitive experience outside the traditional Jr. Olympic Program to serve a diverse group of athletes.
The USTA (United State Trampoline and Tumbling was founded in 1971 by Larry Griswold and George Nissen (the founder of the trampoline; a Cedar Rapids native and University of Iowa grad!). USTA athletes compete in the divisions of tumbling, trampoline, and double-mini. Recreational T&T: This class will focus on establishing tumbling, trampoline, and double mini skills for beginner to intermediate levels.
