The Mousetrap is a family-owned and operated specialty food, kitchen and tabletop shop which was opened in 1976 by two sisters, Becky and Gay Davis. The original store was a franchise called "The Mousetrap, A Cheese Villa." The shop focused on cheese and custom-made gift baskets for special occasions.
Several years later, competition arrived in Lexington known as The Coffee, Tea & Spice House, owned and operated by John Kennan. Becky Davis, having spied John at a party, confronted him with "so you're the son of a bitch who is competing with me!" It was then that the two owners began their relationship, ultimately culminating in marriage.

I've had more positive experiences at the Mousetrap than not, but today's experience was terrible. First, there were 6 employees standing behind the counter and only two customers in the store. The lady taking my order, bless her heart, couldn't repeat my order correctly. I got the wrong sandwich ingredients and had to take it back for a new sandwich and she still couldn't repeat the order back to me correctly. Sandwich number two had the right ingredients, but the bread was not fresh and the sandwich tasted funny. I deposited the sandwich in the first garbage can I could find. So very disappointed

I can be difficult to please and I find that I'd rather have my fingers broken off than go to many "beloved" restaurants.
That being said I was very very impressed by today's visit to The Mousetrap.
At the advice of an employee I tried the pastrami with swiss on light rye and the wild mushroom soup. I was impressed at the quality of the meat and cheese on the sandwich, both were flavorful but the pastrami was especially good and very tender.
The soup was fantastic. Rich, creamy and earthy. Everything a mushroom soup should be.
I whole heartedly recommend this establishment to anyone who likes

This is a great little deli with lots of specialty items (salsas, dip mixes, salad dressings, etc.) as well as some fabulous pimento cheese, chicken salad, and other deli items you can get to go. I have not visited the restaurant, but perhaps after Covid I will have an opportunity to do that. Until then, I will plan to make this a stop for great deli items to enjoy at home.

I love coming here for the fresh cheese. They always have five or so good options to pick from, and the cheese is sooo much more fresh that the pre-sliced versions found in the grocery stores. The staff is great at making suggestions on how to use/pair their pantry items with the cheese or even share an approachable recipe.

I showed up to the mousetrap with a last minute request for sandwiches, chips & drinks to feed 20 during an unexpected & difficult time for our family.
Chris and the team came through with a last minute variety sandwich tray (delicious) within 20 minutes. I can’t thank the MT team enough. Our family was nourished and we didn’t have to worry about a solution to feeding the many.
Thanks again Mousetrap, we’ll be back for catering.

It's been a while since I've been to The Mouse Trap and my experience today reminded me why. The woman behind the counter was extremely rude. She seemed put-off by my questions. She was so rude that at first I thought she was just joking, but no, she was just genuinely that rude. As I left I remembered back to my previous experiences there and recalled that they too had been poor ones due to the attitude of the staff. There are other places in town to purchase good cheese. I recommend going there, where you're wanted.

Have to write that this place was very accommodating to how I wanted to order and have it picked up. So I put in an order for two croissant sandwiches with chicken salad and a side of chips over the phone. I then requested if I could curb side it and have her bring the food to my car. All Maya (I think that was her name) stated was to call me when I got there. I did just that and I was able to get my order, give my credit card to pay and was back on my way to work within 20 minutes.
The only downside to this place, I have to state, is that it is really expensive. Two croissant sandwiches with

I have to agree with Tonya M, Megan M and Evelyn H, the girls behind the counter are always quite dismissive and rude,. However, the Chef dude (if you can call a guy in a place like this a chef, LOL) is very nice.
The prices are quite high and not worthy of a simple deli sandwich.
The beer cheese is pretty good (but, also not cheap), I go in and buy it occasionally.

So good! I want to live here and just eat everything. Lunch and dinner is very affordable. I got their chicken salad sandwich and a soup. Fantastic! The shop is pretty cute too, although many of the things I saw I could get at Meijer or other stores. I will be back again and telling everyone about them!

Neat spot to browse around. The sandwich choices are many however every time I've been in the staff is rather rude and or less than friendly. I mean I don't expect them to go overboard but when you ask if they have any napkins the response shouldn't be "no we don't use napkins" sarcastically. Now I can think fast on my feet and responded "glad I didn't wear white today since I'll be using my sleeves then!" Call me crazy but when you're paying that much for a sandwich maybe more than one napkin is acceptable

Oh MY Goodness the famous Pimento cheese...Get there early before they run out! What is not to love?? The cheese selection is Richly balanced with a lovely cheese assortment in addition to the pimento cheese, all surrounded by a reasonably priced gift assortment. They will have some great ideas for your next get together! This is a fun and filling place you will not want to miss out on. Put the Mousetrap on your "A" list and smile.

This place is such a hidden gem. It isn't big or flashy, but it's always delicious. Absolute best pimento cheese you'll ever eat. And they aren't stingy with it! I also like the selections that you can take home and heat up for a quick dinner that still feels homemade and tastes great. Definitely one of my favorite lunch spots!

I have come here pretty regularly for years. It is a combination of a cheese shop, gift shop, deli and gourmet kitchen supply shop. They have high end and imported items and foods. All very high quality.
As far as the prepared food goes. Chris is a capable and excellent chef. They offer deli sandwiches and prepared foods like grilled salmon, grilled shrimp, beef tenderloin, crab cakes, personal-sized meat loaves, asparagus, potatoes, quiches, salads, etc. They offer 3 different homemade soups each day and they are always excellent. I had the split pea and ham soup today and I always check to see

The little girls behind the counter are so rude that I can only describe them as "pissy".
They would do well to remember that they are assembling sandwiches - not rockets.
I used to have a sandwich there every Saturday after piano lessons. That was 37 years ago.
Not only has service suffered terribly over the years, the sandwiches have gone downhill as well.
Dry, slapped together with bread nearing staling.
It's a shame really.
The pimiento cheese is outstanding. Buy a tub, avoid the sandwich.
At least I have my memories, since the only way I will return is in my mind.

The Mousetrap is the cutest little lunch spot and tiny grocery for special items like cheeses, pasta sauces and noodles, jelly, prepared food.
You walk into the store but it's 3 rooms, the grocery, the restaurant, and the cute/neat kitchen items. Perfect for entertaining, they have all kinds of napkins with cute designs.
The prices on the food in the grocery are a little steep and some of the deli could've been fresher.
