Our mission is to promote mental health through education, advocacy, understanding, and access to quality care for all individuals. Our mission is to promote mental health through education, advocacy, understanding, and access to quality care for all individuals. Recovery Centers in North Dakota are daily drop-in centers for adults who are being treated, or have been treated, for mental illness. Mental Health America of North Dakota (MHAND) sponsors two of these Recovery Centers - the Myrt Armstrong Recovery Center in Fargo and the Mountainbrooke Recovery Center in Grand Forks.
The goals of the Freedom Center are to create a support system within the community, outside of treatment centers; help members meet their basic needs; provide experiences that promote feelings of self-worth, self-respect, independence, and improve the ability of the consumer to live independently in the community; reduce the incidence of inpatient hospitalization and improve the quality of life for the individual.
MHAND operates Mountainbrooke through a sub-contract from the ND Dept. of Human Services, Division of Mental Health and Substance Abuse. The center provides stability to individuals who experience symptoms that related to their mental illness by offering an environment where members can share a meal, participate in leisure activities and receive support in a social setting.
Daily activities, outings on Tuesdays and Thursdays, one nighttime activity per week such as going to Trinity Lutheran Church for a meal, movies, concerts, sports games, bowling and more. Many of our friends and neighbors are consumers of mental health services and must live on a fixed or limited income.
