Founded in 1923, Caribou Medical Center (CMH), is a 25 bed federally certified Critical Access Hospital that is owned by Caribou County. Located at 300 South 3rd West in Soda Springs, Idaho, CMH is governed by a board of volunteers appointed by the county. The hospital has not received any county tax support since 2009, is totally debt free and is profitable from operations.
Services include an Emergency Department, with 24/7 physician coverage, full radiology and clinical laboratory services, outpatient services, including wound care, ICU/CCU and inpatient beds, including "swing beds." The history of Caribou Medical Center began in 1923, with the Caribou County Commissioners agreeing to build a "real" hospital in Soda Springs, to keep the famed Dr. Ellis Kackley from moving to Lava.

Services
The Caribou Medical Center Foundation provides members of the community with opportunities to enhance the programs and services of Caribou Medical Center. That support may be tax-deductible contributions of cash, financial securities, in-kind assets/services or volunteer hours assisting with planning and organizing fundraising events.
Caribou Medical Center offers a Critical Access Emergency Room with nurse and physician coverage 24/7. We are able to provide care for all kinds of injuries and illnesses. Services include x-ray, lab and mental health care. Through a partnership with University of Utah we are also able to offer telemedicine consultations with specialist at the University's critical care, wound, burn and stroke center.
We utilize computer charting, electronic medical records, tele-medicine, and an electronic medical dispensary (Pyxis). We also have the ability to utilize "tele-pharmacy" to ensure safety and accuracy in dispensing and administering medications when our skilled in-house pharmacists are not available.
Our surgical staff takes pride in providing convenient, compassionate and individualized care to every single patient we serve. As a surgical patient you will receive the same level and quality of care that you would receive at any larger facility in our area. Expert surgeons from Pocatello, Blackfoot, Bear Lake and Logan offer surgical services right here at Caribou Memorial.
Our full service lab offers comprehensive clinical laboratory services 24 hours a day. Rapid response testing is made possible by our highly trained staff through the use of extensive equipment and collaboration with providers and other resources. Most tests are performed at our CMH facility; however some extensively complex procedures are referred to partner reference laboratories.

My mother went in with a stage 4 cancer diagnosis as well as a feeding tube. The nurses did not know how to use a feeding tube, and me and my family had to teach them. We had to bring in our own materials for the feeding tube because the hospital did not have the proper supplies. They were clearly unorganized and frankly uneducated. She had a port in her heart so that she would not have to get continuous IV’s, which they repeatedly did anyways. As a family it was extremely frustrating and heartbreaking that the staff had a lack of communication which caused our mother to go through unnecessary

Had a procedure done at Caribou Memorial recently that is not offered in Pocatello (minimally invasive endoscopic discectomy). Everyone at Caribou Memorial was friendly and helpful. I want to thank Josh and Josh (my nurse and nurse anesthetist) for their great care and Dr. Stephen Hansen for making my procedure as smooth and successful as I could imagine. Compassionate and personalized care is becoming less common in bigger communities and it is nice to see that Caribou Memorial and their staff are committed to a level of care and quality the community can be proud of.

I recently burned my hand badly camping. I was a little hesitant going to the ER in Soda Springs. I must say that my care there, was by far the best I have ever had in an Emergency Room. The Nurses and Doctor went above and beyond in my care. They were extremely thourough and very pleasant and fun in a time I was in extreme pain. Thank you ladies very much for your care during my visit.
