The Brien Center is open and providing services. Many of our client visits are now taking place via telehealth. Please support the Brien Center as we meet our community's expanding need during the pandemic. Visit Coping with QuaranTEEN - an amazing new site providing resources and support for teens struggling with substance misuse.

At the Brien Center, we are guided by the belief that everyone in Berkshire County benefits when people are emotionally healthy. We don't just serve children and adolescents. We serve entire families by calming the crisis and providing strength and support for better days ahead. Our programs are comprehensive, clinically- proven, and delivered by counselors who are specialty-trained to provide the best care possible to youth in our community.
Services
The Brien Center is Berkshire County's largest provider of behavioral health and addiction services. We employ almost 500 dedicated, compassionate people who work at 25 locations county-wide. Our impact is experienced and appreciated by nearly 10,000 individuals - including almost 4,000 children - whose lives are saved, whose illnesses are successfully treated, and who continue on as successful members of our community.
The Brien Center provides a continuum of care for children, adolescents, adults and families. Our agency is organized around four divisions that address the behavioral health needs of Berkshire County residents using a "community-based care" model. This means our services are delivered where people live, work, shop, worship, go to school and raise their families.
Do you have questions about the Brien Center's many treatment options, programs and services? Our trained staff can help!. We accept referrals from hospital emergency departments, physicians and practitioners, parents and guardians, other social service agencies, courts, and family service departments.
In 1920, the Riggs Clinic was established (forerunner to Berkshire Mental Health Center) for adults at the House of Mercy Hospital on upper North Street (now Berkshire Medical Center). It was called the "Mental Hygiene and Neurological Clinic, " and was operated almost entirely on Riggs Foundation funds with the hospital contributing clinic space.
According to the latest U.S. census, Berkshire County's Hispanic population rose by 56 percent over the past decade, from 4,530 to 7,064 people. Some of our Brien employees identify as Hispanic. They, or their ancestors, brought rich cultures and histories that have added a great deal to our community.
