Tom Hitchins Architect
Having graduated with my professional degree in architecture from Pratt Institute in 1982, I worked for several firms in New York City before forming my own firm, Tom Hitchins Associates, in New Jersey in 1990. In 2009, my wife and I followed our dream and relocated to the coast of Maine, where I continue to practice.

There is no one "style" that characterizes my approach to design. You can design a wonderful building using any particular design language: Modern, Country, Arts and Crafts, etc. The important thing is to be fluent in each vocabulary, to know the rules and when to break them. Each project is unique, with a unique client, a unique program, a unique site.
Services
As an architect, I am committed to providing you with personalized, high-quality, custom design services focusing on the unique requirements of your site, your goal, your budget, and your dreams. My work includes residential, commercial, and institutional projects. I do new construction, additions, and renovations.
Many of the houses I've been privileged to design are in places chosen for their unique locations or views. Others are on ordinary streets in towns and suburbs. Some are primary residences, others second homes. Some are for families with young children, some are for couples, and others are for older people.
Residential additions and renovations come in all shapes and sizes. Some are historic houses on urban lots that require careful restoration; others are suburban houses that require expansion for a growing family. Some are rambling farmhouses that are in need of repair and updating for modern living; others are small lake cottages that need to be grown while respecting their rustic origins.
I have had the pleasure of working not only on homes, but also on a wide range of nonresidential projects. These have included healthcare offices, stores, small conference/educational centers, daycare centers, municipal buildings, churches, firehouses, animal shelters, children's summer camps, and even an historic railway station.
