Services
Caring for our community is a long-standing tradition at Sakakawea Medical Center. Since our founding, we have strived to care for all who need us and to bring health, healing, and a better quality of life to our neighbors. SMC serves Dunn, Mercer and Oliver counties, and is located in the heart of rural Mercer County and housed in the City of Hazen.
Dr. Klindworth is Board Certified in Family Medicine and a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the North Dakota Academy of Family Physicians. She received her Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Alberta Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry in Edmonton, Alberta Canada, and completed her Family Medicine Internship and Residency at the UND Center for Family Medicine in Bismarck, North Dakota.
Sakakawea Medical Center and Coal Country Community Health Center are part of a unique operating model designed to maximize the use of available resources and provide quality services in our communities. This model encourages communication and transparency between the two organizations while simultaneously meeting the programmatic and regulatory requirements that each individual organization must operate under.
There is a place where your generosity can make a difference; when you can touch individual lives and make a lasting contribution to the healthcare community. Sakakawea Medical Center Foundation was formed to help provide the philanthropic and community resources needed to improve the health and welfare of residents in our service area.
Volunteers are seldom paid ‐ not because they are worthless, but because they are "priceless." Sakakawea Medical Center enjoys working with volunteers and we offer a variety of volunteer opportunities. Volunteers can participate through the hospital Auxiliary; directly with our Swing Bed patients; Senior Suites programs and residents; or behind the scenes throughout the facility.

I had some testing done and am still waiting 3 weeks later to find out what's up? Trying to get ahold of the correct staff at SMC to find out more information on my tests is totally useless. Calls and voicemails go unanswered. Oh, but the medical bill did get to me in a timely manner.

The ER staff were AMAZING! Fast pace results and excellent care. Everybody we came in to contact with was kind, knowledgeable and respectful. I couldn't have asked for better care for my father!

The medical team assigned to me: nurse Destiny, doctor Schmit and anesthesiologist Karl came to my rescue, each talked to me and made me feel that I'm in good hands (God gave me the best)! My nurse Destiny held my hand and stayed with me the entire
