Harley-Davidson of Utica - located in New York Mills in New York State near New Hartford and Syracuse - started in 1975 amid the AMF years. In the beginning, the franchise was part of Don's Ford on Route 12 North in Utica. While it may seem an unlikely combination, times being what they were in the mid-1970s, it was a win-win relationship from the beginning.
Harley-Davidson Motor Company had significant pressure from Japanese imports at the time and was looking to increase its dealer ranks to market its line of lightweight (250cc and smaller) motorcycles, made by Aermacchi, Harley-Davidson's Italian motorcycle subsidiary. With gasoline shortages and price hikes spurred on by the Arab oil embargo of 1973, buyers were looking for fuel-efficient vehicles.

From East: Take Route 5S east to Utica. Stay straight on Route 5S and it becomes Route 5A where it crosses Route 12. After passing Route 12, continue 2.5 miles and take a slight right onto the ramp to stay on Route 5A and beginning of Commercial Drive. We are approximately 1 mile on left (next to the cell tower).

BEWARE OF DOING BUSINESS WITH GREG GATTO(Sales manager at HD of Utica). I recently purchased a fairing from him personally that he claimed was practically new and perfect. He said he never had any problems with the fairing before. I received the fairing and turns out the mounting tab was previously broken and poorly fixed. He refuses to give me any sort of refund to lying to me and purposely hiding details about the damages. Definitely not a professional.

The service manager Shane is very friendly, willing to listen & answer questions. After it was diagnosed he called & explained what the problem was with my V-Rod, how they would fix it & how much it would cost. At $110 per hr I think the dirty fingerprints should have been cleaned off my wheel but that's my only gripe. I will go back for service again when needed.

I have not had any experience with the service department so I have no opinion on that, however the lack of inventory for parts is not acceptable. 2 weeks wait to order something that should be in stock. I purchased a primary gasket this spring and was given the wrong one, I purchased the orings for the drain plugs and was given the incorrect size. Last weekend I called about the fuel check valve, miraculously they said they had 1 in stock, went to pick it up and the inventory was wrong...they didnt have it.

I really like dealing with Utica HD, I've purchased a few bikes from Bob over the years and he has been great to deal with. I'm also impressed with the service department. I have a few issues that they went out of their way to correct for me, that will keep me coming back. Shane and the others there do a great job.
