1990 in Crossville, Illinois, two hard-working entrepreneurs, Donnie Wilson and Jeff Cantrell, were working in the oil fields of the Illinois basin, trying to clean up an oil pit with a skimmer that was picking up more water than oil. Frustrated, one of them made the comment that more oil could be recovered with a 5-gallon bucket than with the useless skimmer they were using.

Oil spill absorbents are pads and booms that can be quickly deployed for spill response. They work by picking up and retaining the oil. The used absorbents can be safely burned on-site in the Elastec SmartAsh cyclonic barrel burner. For small spills, absorbents may be used as the sole cleanup method, while for larger spills, they may be used to clean up residual oil that can not be reached by skimmers.
Aerostat systems offer real-time surveillance for a variety of aerial photography applications including oil spill response, security, and environmental monitoring. The system can be deployed and retrieved in a matter of minutes. Aerostat systems are lightweight and portable. This package incorporates patented wings that stabilize the balloon and give lift.
Since 1967, Elastec has manufactured floating booms and barriers through its acquisition of American Marine in Cocoa, Florida.
