Bolton Engineering, Inc. is an award-winning electronic and software engineering firm, located in Lawrence, Massachusetts, just off Route 495, about 28 miles north of Boston. Bolton Engineering was founded in 1987 to provide highly manufacturable electronic designs to industry. Bolton has engineered and delivered over 350 board-level designs.
Bolton Engineering designs electronic products. Most of our work is with integrated designs: products that are self-standing but often connect and/or communicate to other devices. Designing integrated, mixed-signal products requires solid attention to detail. Without a carefully considered electrical and physical implementation, different circuit sections can interfere with each other, severely compromising a product's performance.
Bolton Engineering, Inc. provides a variety of services, matched to a particular client's needs. Most often, Bolton Engineering takes responsibility for a full project, from writing a specification, to designing hardware and writing software, to delivering production-ready prototypes. We have delivered as few as two and as many as a thousand production quality boards.
Six years after designing SensAble Technologies first commercially-oriented product, SensAble returned to Bolton Engineering, Inc. to develop the PHANTOM Omni. The Omni had significantly different requirements than the original PHANTOM Desktop. The Omni was to be manufactured in significantly higher volumes in the Far East.
Bolton Engineering functioned effectively as part of my development team; something design consultants don't necessarily do well. I cannot count the number of times Bolton went out of the way to keep to delivery schedules in spite of unanticipated problems and changes. We've had countless meetings to resolve design and documentation issues for the other three boards in the system, but have not had a single one for the board [Bolton] designed.
