There are two processes used to decorate ceramic tiles. Most others use dye sublimation to put the image on the tile. Dye sublimation starts with an inkjet printer loaded with special inks and a hot press to transfer and cure those inks to the tile. If you read the fine print on their websites, you'll see the warning, "Not for use in direct sunlight".
That's because of the intense ultraviolet light from the sun. The problem lies in the fact that the UV light is reflected around the room. Have you ever removed a picture that's been on a wood-covered wall for a long while? You'll readily see the effects of UV light on the wall, even from indirect light.
