Joaquin received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California at Berkeley in 1993. After completing his undergraduate studies, he returned to Colorado to attend the University of Denver, College of Law. While in law school, Joaquin was a member of the Law Review, where his case comment "Vernonia School District 47 v. Acton: Flushing the Fourth Amendment-Student Athletes' Privacy Interests Go Down the Drain, " was featured.
