Roy's Pasties & Bakery
We are a family-owned and operated bakery in the heart of Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula. Featuring made-from-scratch pasties, deli soups and sandwiches, bakery, and custom cakes, Roy's is a must-visit when you're in town. Our award-winning pasties are made from scratch and shipped frozen from our kitchen to yours.

Roy opens the bakery as "Sheldon's Bakery" in honor of his father's pasty recipe in a 2,000 square foot, leased location which became popular with the local residents. Roy Narhi renames the bakery, "Roy's Pasties and Bakery." The bakery was often sold out of products in the early afternoon and could not meet the demand of its market.
Services
Nestled along the Portage Shipping Canal in Houghton, Roy's Pasties and Bakery serves oven-fresh pasties, baked goods, and delicious lunch items that are made from scratch every morning. To ensure each customer's experience is full of delight, we strive to serve high-quality products, provide gracious service, and create a warm atmosphere every day.
A delicious blend of beef, pork, rutabaga, potato, onion and carrot, seasoned to perfection and nestled in a golden crust. Small 12-ounce pasties or large 16-ounce pasties available every day. Mini-pasties are available by special order. An award winning non-traditional pasty filled with delicious roasted turkey, potatoes, savory gravy, dressing and cranberries!
Shaved, slow-roasted beef piled high and garnished with cream cheese, onion, lettuce and sprouts on your choice of bread. Cheddar and provolone cheeses, tomato, onion, avocado, lettuce and sprouts topped with our tasty dijonnaise on Roy's ten-grain bread. Our own flavorful house-recipe of oven-roasted chicken, onion, celery, dried sweetened cranberries, and spices make up our delicious chicken salad.

The best pasties ever! We had a traditional and a breakfast pasty. Delicious with great coffee. Plenty of natives enjoying the same, oh yah! Google needs to fix the map directions. They're not right. It's right on the river, NOT right off of 41

We tried their pasty but felt Connie's was better. I had the breakfast croissant special but only had a tablespoon if that for filling and it was not a croissant it was a baked wrapped and sealed Danish looking croissant. I had to go back and get something else. Bakery looks good though. Great location and great views finally a restaurant on the water!

Best pasty I've had in a while!! Also, we got a donut and croissant as well, both of which were incredible!!
I got a Bismark donut, and the filling was amazing- not your normal filling- go try it!!
My husband's croissant was literally the best croissant I've ever tried- so light and airy.
Also, the staff were super kind and friendly. Not a long wait, and a nice area to sit and enjoy your scrumptious food!

In the Upper Midwest, there are destinations to which one returns over and over again ... Minnesota's Largest Candy Store, Betty's Pies ... and Roy's Pasties and Bakery. A few things to keep in mind: First, Roy's is open six days a week, 7 to 7. Second, the pasties are phenomenally popular, and tend to sell out before noon. In late August we got there around 12:15 in midweek, and the traditional and turkey pasties were already gone. Happily, we were able to nosh on a couple of chicken and broccoli pasties, and will add a dozen of them to our fall foliage order (a dozen of each, if your please)

Two visitors to Michigan had never tried a Pasty, so we took them to Roy's for their first. They weren't disappointed! Three traditional pasties were very good, but the overall winner was the Chicken and Broccoli pasty. Everyone liked that one best. Great baked goods, great service, and a fun upper peninsula experience.

We’re currently on a van life road trip from California to Michigan and we just made it to Michigan! We camped nearby and saw this pastie spot. I’ve tried pasties in the past and wasn’t a big fan but the restaurant looked lovely from the outside so I decided to give it a try- glad I did because this one was way better.
I ordered a vegetarian pastie and my partner ordered a turkey cranberry pastie. Both were very good. I definitely am glad we got water with them because it made me thirsty.
Also ordered a cinnamon roll with maple frosting on top.
Definitely recommend if you’re in the area

So happy to find this gem while traveling. Excellent breakfast pasties and donuts/pastries didn't get an opportunity to try the other pasties although I've heard they are phenomenal. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Plus outside you get a beautiful view of the bridge

I rate them highly for their lovely food offerings, but their hours of operation are extremely limited and cost them one star. IF you find them open, worth your time and money.
Reply to Owner: Instead of a gracious thanks for the review, I receive a response that didn't like my dislike for their hours of operation. After being closed until the beginning of summer, every time I've wanted to bring my kids to get one of your fine pastries, it's been a considerable time after their dinner has settled, usually around 6:40 p.m. or later, which means you're not even an option. By then, most of your good

6 out of 5 stars — incredible, as always! Standard pasty is fantastic, as are their cookies. They sell out of breakfast pasties within a couple hours of opening. Staff are very friendly and helpful, everything is clean and orderly, excellent coffee/soda/silverware station, great location with beautiful views!

If pasties aren't your thing, then Roy's has exactly what you're looking for. Had lunch here today. Both our sandwiches were wonderful. The homemade chips are an awesome combination of french fry and potato chip. The Greek pasta salad was fantastic.

A friend of our family brought fresh pasties for us to try. We absolutely understand why this family love this place. My favorite one was the "thanksgiving dinner" one. The crust is flaky and not heavy and it is stuffed with deliciousness!!
The chicken broccoli pastie was also delicious. They freeze well and the instructions to reheat is so easy to do! I look forward to visiting in person sometime

If you have one place you need to stop and get pasties from, this is the one. We bought several pasties (breakfast pastie, danish pastie, and their spicy pastie). We loved the breakfast pastie and spicy pastie (this was our favorite). The danish pastie (another breakfast one) wasn't as good.

Staff was amazing and we would love to come back.

Fabulous pasty and bakery in downtown Houghton in the Keweenaw peninsula. Open daily.

They have giant cookies, donuts, cronuts, pasties all fresh. They also sell frozen pasties to take home to heat and eat.

We came for their breakfast pasties and they had sold out of their fresh ones. So we bought their frozen breakfast pasties. Heated them up in the oven the next morning and they tasted great.

Breakfast pasty: eggs, sausage, and potatoes.

Danish pasty: danish dough, eggs, peppers, onions, & ham.

Pasty with a kick: traditional pasty that substitutes rutabaga for jalapeños and hot

We drove all the way from Houston to see what the Keweenaw region had in store for us, and the pasty was definitely a highlight of the trip. Their deserts are out of this world and the view was also such a treat. GET A PASTY HERE.

If you're reading this, your obviously either in the Houghton area, heading there, or thinking of going there.

When you're in Houghton, there are a few places that I consider "must visit" places. This is quickly becoming one of those for me.

Their pasties are most excellent - light crust and flavorful filling. I get the traditional because I'm kind of a purist. But I definitely enjoy that - no gravy or ketchup either! It is excellent plain.

Their other bakery goods are excellent as well. When I want to take a taste of the UP home, I grab some of Roy's bread

Wow. Hubby picked up the most AMAZING savory breakfast pasties. Also super delicious cookies. I try to avoid carbs but there was no chance with Roy's recipes. So delicious. The kids loved the Fruity Pebble donut! Now all I need to do is figure out how to get some of your amazingness down in the burbs of Chicago....best of luck through corona Roy, by the size of the bags hubby brought back, we did our part.

Everything is great here: pasty, donut, sandwich, whatever. When we visit, we eat breakfast here every other day. Copper Harbor breakfast sandwich and a donut today. The kids liked the donuts as well. Usually I get the breakfast Danish, which is also great. In the winter, my team grabs a few dozen to bring downstate when our work is done. This is one of the places we look forward to eating at.

Fruit bars.
Lemon bars.
Tarts.
......how and WHY do I have to choose only one!?
(I don't, they pack some to go)

I ordered my daughters graduation cake from Roy's. Chocolate and White with raspberry filling. OMG.....AMAZING!

Super quiet atmosphere. Great for studying or reading a book during lunch.

Maybe the "best pasties in the UP" comments are from friends of the shop or locals? Either way, The Pasty Guy disagrees.

It's a nice location to grab a pasty and sit by the water, or maybe go for a walk with the pasty. A little pasty walk, one would say.

But the pasties are very salty. At least in my experience. Maybe I had a bad batch? Everything else was good, but the saltiness took away from it being considered one of the best. Maybe those that claim these are the best really, really like salt. Guess I can't fault them, then.
