Friday Harbor has its share of eateries but I really love The Bean Cafe for breakfast. It was literally next door to the Ferry upstairs over a small parking garage. It had excellent selections of pastries, cookies and breakfast items. Order at the window and they will deliver a counter pick area or to your table. I loved the Lox and Bagel sandwich. I had three choices of bagel which was great. They had oat milk which I preferred to cow milk.
My husband had scrambled eggs and and excellent country fries made just perfectly. The eggs were nice, moist and fluffy, too. The young people at the counter

Ordered a drip coffee and it was French roast which is a very specific flavor profile with little to no caffeine. I went to order another drink and mentioned that the drip coffee was not good. I was told to go somewhere else. So next time I am in town I will. I will not recommend this place to anyone if you care about customer service. I know a lot of people in the coffee industry and they would be mortified if they knew their employees felt so entitled!

The rudest barista ever. Not only to customers but also to his colleagues. He yells at them, doesn't say please and thank you when he asks for someone, and has a terrible attitude. When it was our time to collect our coffee from the counter, we asked for two sleeves. Instead of putting it on the counter right in from of him, he decided that it was appropriate to throw the sleeves at us. Wow! He was also extremely rude to other customers ahead of us who also asked for sleeves. I am dumbfounded that someone with his poor attitude works with the public. While our coffee was okay, I will not support

Came here for breakfast today. We are gluten free and they didn’t have any gluten free bread but said they could do a breakfast burrito without the burrito or steel cut oats (which wasn’t 100% gluten free). We got both. Oats were amazing with raisins and berries and nuts on top. Breakfast bowl was a little small for a 10 dollar meal. Would have like more eggs. Oatmeal was $6.50.
Iced coffee and iced chai were good! Was about $25 for two breakfasts and two drinks (a little steep in my opinion but it’s island food lol). Would recommend!

Had the broccoli quiche this morning was is an 8 1/2 out of 10. It was a little salty and for me that’s probably really salty for anyone else I salt McDonald’s french fries. I also got the everything bagel and cream cheese with locks that was tasty the bagel was not toasted. Good price for the island. Ty

Seemed a bit too catered to the Ferry/tourist crowd. There was a long line but not fresh food options I could see, just pre-prepped saran-wrapped items. There was not much seating available and a distinct air of 'keep it moving' Not what I want when I'm going out for a nice cup of coffee on 'island time'.

A great coffee venue to visit and enjoy! Great customer service! Beautiful and spacious design. I enjoy visiting your location specifically for a cortado and any espresso beverage! ::--))
Suggestion - I would love to see a better drip coffee selection. French Roast is one of the least enjoyable roasting profiles of drip coffee (in my opinion) -- it's a roast that is completely over roasted and has lost all the beauty of the bean and natural oils & flavors. I tried your drip today (forced myself) just because I wanted to see if might be good since it's your only selection (thought maybe I was missing

We loved this cafe for breakfast and coffee! We came here every morning of our four-day trip and enjoyed all the coffees we got (both hot and iced) and their breakfast sandwiches. My favorite drink was a hot mocha with toffee nut syrup, and my favorite breakfast item was the breakfast croissant with ham. We also liked the selection of bagels and the espresso brownie. Great food at good prices! The staff was also really friendly.

We love the Bean Cafe!!!
My man and I stopped in back in January during our visit. We had to go in because our dog is nick-named the bean. The owner was incredibly kind. Due to COVID and no indoor dining, he allowed our pup to come in with us. He even came around the counter to pet him.
Our coffee was delicious and I have no idea if they make the muffins in-house or order them in from a supplier, but the banana nut muffin made my jaw drop. I wasn't expecting much from a café muffin (no offense intended!) but it was SO GOOD.
For the COVID-conscious, the owner and employee inside both

We had breakfast here for a quick bite. The croissant breakfast sandwich although tasty was not really a croissant, more like a very compact fluffy bread.
The girl who took our order had some attitude, making faces when I changed my mind from hereto a to go coffee. Really not professional.
Seemed more like locals as it is a few blocks from the ferry dock.

The Bean is a cute spot located right across the street from the Friday Harbor ferry terminal. It's the perfect place to hang out while you're waiting for your ride back to the mainland, with offerings from breakfast to lunch to wine and beer. On a recent rainy Sunday I parked my car in Lane 10 and hoofed it up to The Bean for some breakfast. I got a bagel with cream cheese and some veggies to keep it healthy looking, plus a tasty caramel macchiato featuring my new favorite: almond milk.
There was a pretty long line, and it didn't move real fast (I think they call it Island Time

Stopped here our first day in Friday Harbor, ordered sandwiches. Quick observations:
1) The cafe smelled like dirty mop
2) Navigating the chalkboard menu overhead was challenging
3) It's weird to see the employee taking your order turn around & give a full hug to another employee for reasons unknown... did our order inspire love?
4) It took a LoNg time for our order to arrive. When it finally did the girl mumbled something about running out of chicken & having to go get some. Wait, what?
5) The food was really good, which is why I'm giving The Bean Cafe 4 stars. In fact, we ordered

Apparently all but 2 or 3 of the cafes in Friday Harbor close on a holiday. Kudos, Bean, for hosting breakfast for all of the tourists. We wanted to walk around after our stop so we decided to skip coffee and only order the breakfast croissant and sausage panini.
In the 5-10 minutes before our food came out, I experienced the one thing that is sure to ruin any meal: blatant racism from a visibly mentally unstable person. Seated several tables away, this disheveled lady approached me multiple times to make remarks about my appearance. Each time she walked away she hollered "DOMO DOMO ARIGATO
