I've never cooked or worked in restaurants. So I got lucky when, on an Alaskan kayak trip, I met and married a private chef from New York. Since 1994, Truckee has been our base camp, where we have started and grown our business and raised two children. We consider ourselves true locals, and our customers have come to depend on our deep relationship within the community.
What is there to say but WOW! I eat a strict diet and do not have problems sticking to my regament, but Chef Grog broke me. His food combinations and pairings were spot on! Rarely do I say this... world class service! Talk about professional! I had a last minute event during the wildfires and the Hey Chef team just stepped right up and handled the whole process perfectly. Super impressive. HIGHLY recommended. We had the most amazing 4th of July barbecue! Starting with the Red,white and blue frozen drinks...to the s'mores dessert, it was perfection through and through. Every dish was absolutely delicious. Our menu was varied and presented a range of food to meet all dietary issues. The presentation was fabulous and the servers were professional, so helpful and extremely friendly! They helped with set up and cleaned up the kitchen at the end. Every counter was washed down and the towels in the laundry.The pre event planning was super organized and easy. Holly and Nora were great to work with. They helped us put together a delicious menu with only a few days notice for a retreat that I was planning. They even had a chef come in and prepare the food right there for all our guests and executives. Would recommend if having an event in the Tahoe/Truckee area.

Absolutely wonderful experience! Chef Patrick was spot on with his presentation and preparation. He was very knowledgeable on all the dishes and I loved the southern accents he added from him being raised in the South . Although plantains were not available his substitution of green bananas in its place was ingenious. I highly recommend Hey Chef for any dinner party where you don't want to labor in your kitchen!! Well...HeyChef! has done it again and this one, will too go down in the books for a night to remember. I can't say enough about the impeccable service that HeyChef! brings to the table. There's something called "mountain time" that many businesses in the Tahoe area operate on, but not HeyChef! They answer their phone and it's always pleasant to get a live voice and not a voicemail. First chef Grog, now chef Abi, and I couldn’t be happier. HeyChef! has cooked for me a number of times over the years, and every time I’m amazed at why I ever thought I should do all the work myself when I have guests in my home. They think of every detail, their staff is top knotch, and it’s good to know I’m supporting a locally-owned Truckee business. Grog was able to give us superb service on short notice over the 4th of July. We had delicious, over the top breakfasts, 5 mornings in a row. Each morning a different treat. Then 3 delicious dinners and desserts that were 5 stars! Most importantly, the staff, starting with Chef Grog, were sophisticated, charming and hard working. Holly and the Hey Chef! team are the best. My husband's family surprised us for our son's first birthday. While my family and I went to Donner Lake enjoying the day together, Grog arrivied at our home and produced the most delicious meal including home made bread and a birthday cake with candles that completed the celebration! Every detail was thought out and expidited perfectly. I will call Hey Chef! for all our celebrations from now on.

I am a huge fan of HeyChef! for delicious and healthy meals served in your own home. Their lead Chef Grog is fantastic; he has the skill and insight to elevate any meal. One of my favorite dishes by Chef Grog is seafood Wellington; it is out-of-this-world delicious. And his home-made sourdough bread, hot from the oven, is sublime, with the scent of sourdough, a light and doughy interior and a wonderful crust. Nothing is better than a warm slice of Grog's sourdough bread with a bowl of his soup on a cold winter evening.

Hey Chef completely exceeded my expectations!! We had Chef Tommy cook a dinner for our small wedding reception at home for 20 guests. The food was delicious and his team did an amazing job of being available to us but courteous of the small space and intimate party. Everything ran so smoothly with clean up and set up. Tommy and the servers were so kind and easy to be around. What an awesome company!

Read my other reviews, I tell it like it is- I like to shout from the rooftops when I have had a great experience- and same for a poor experience. I make an effort to show both sides, constructive criticism is a good thing.
That said...I can ONLY say great things about Hey Chef! From the very first call with Holly to the final invoicing- this team is tip top- professional, helpful, knowledgable and all around fantastic.
