R&D Services, Inc. was founded in 1994, but the foundation of R&D goes all the way back to the 1970's when the United States found itself in two separate energy crises. These crises forced the US to reduce fuel consumption and dedicate more effort to increasing energy efficiency in homes and businesses.
The US Department of Energy worked together with Oak Ridge National Laboratory to research and develop innovative ways to test insulation products and decrease US dependence on oil. Ron Graves and Dr. David Yarbrough worked at ORNL during this time period and were instrumental in researching insulation products, developing new test methods, evaluating product performance, and advancing building construction techniques.

R&D Services, Inc. was founded to provide accurate and efficient testing for the insulation industry. Since 1994, R&D Services has grown alongside the building materials industry to include many additional services for our clients, including testing, consulting, engineering calculations, product development, code compliance, inspections, legal testimony, and much more.
R&D Services, Inc. has been providing testing and consulting services to clients around the world for over 18 years. We have relied on years of professional experience to deliver the highest quality information to our clients. We have two professional engineers on staff, and many decades of combined experience in building materials analysis.
We frequently perform inspection services for our clients that range from quarterly quality control product selections to annual inspections required by accreditation bodies. We work with clients to provide in-plant qualification and follow-on inspection services that meet their needs. We strive to reduce costs to our clients by using budget-conscious travel arrangements and including as many inspections as possible in a single trip.
R&D Services, Inc. provides consulting related to product development, performance, applications, and improvement with emphasis on heat transfer, thermal insulations, and related building materials.
Consulting assignments range from reports and evaluation of properties and performance, often in tandem with laboratory work through modeling of heat and mass-transfer phenomena, to discussions of advanced concepts and product design for a broad spectrum of materials.In addition, R&D Services is active in code and standards development and provides assistance in legal cases in the form of expert testimony or consulting.

R&D Services offers testing and consulting in satisfying building code requirements. We help our clients obtain evaluation service reports (ESR) and provide mandatory follow-on quality control services for these clients when necessary.
We have a long-standing relationship with the International Code Counsel - Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) and have recently partnered with ICC-ES to provide a direct path to customers looking to obtain energy star and evaluation report certifications.R&D Services will provide testing and inspection services and will work with manufacturers to assemble the data necessary for certification.
