Services
We develop foundations for physical education: We teach and practice the benefits of exercising, stretching, and agility while offering curriculum to improve martial arts skill levels. We develop work and study habits: At JP Wood, we instruct an educational based system where curriculum is taught in different subject matters.
J.P. Wood Martial Arts America uses a curriculum based program for students' skill development. In this way, students learn and practice different subjects that apply to their martial arts training and then are evaluated on these subjects for promotion to the next belt rank. Along with these subjects, student must accumulate training/class hours to be eligible to take an upcoming exam.
The Kukkiwon is the World Taekwondo Academy in charge of black belt testing and certification for the World Taekwondo Federation, and it is located in Seoul Korea. The World Taekwondo Federation, which is the international governing body for Taekwondo, requires that all those who wish to compete, referee, or coach in World Taekwondo Federation or Kukkiwon sponsored seminars, trainings course and competitions be Kukkiwon certified.
Moo Do Won International's focus is to guide individual school owners and their members to be the best they can be. We do this with innovative ideas, out of box thinking, an improved state of mind and motivation, and laser like focus on how to reach their school's true potential. Moo Do Won International was founded in 1989 by GrandMaster Wood after GrandMaster Dong Hi Choi passed away, the founder of Moo Do Won USA.
J.P. Wood Foundation, a not-for-profit located in Palatine, Illinois, was created to provide college scholarships to graduating high school seniors, and self defense seminars and martial arts classes for at risk or low income students. College scholarships are awarded to students who have demonstrated leadership, integrity, courtesy, and a commitment to obtaining a college education.

GMs Wood and the team there are some of the finest people I have known. If you put in the time you will get a ton out of the training they offer. Everyone is respectful and caring as you learn. They will challenge you! It's one of the best training environments I have been in I am glad that I got to be there up until I had to relocation.
Sincerely,
Tim

JP Wood Martial Arts America is my family's second home! My sons and I have been with them for over ten years and we are still going strong! One of the things I love best about JP Wood is the variety of classes. They offer Tae Kwon Do (World Tae Kwon Do curriculum) pre-school - adult, Koryo Gumdo (a Korean sword martial art) which Grand Master Wood is the chairman of Koryo Gumdo International, Hapkido, Light Saber (Jedi training for all!), one of the coolest summer camps, tournaments, self-defense and weapon seminars and workout classes! Grand Master John Wood and his wife Master Janice Wood also

My son started attending JP Wood last year, and it has quickly become an important part of our family's life. JP Woods is owned and operated by people who have a real passion for their work, and it shows. They care about their students in a holistic way that involves a whole-life approach that encourages the kids to excel not just in martial arts, but in all their undertakings. The classes are well-balanced between fun and hard work, their schedule provides lots of opportunities for busy families to find time to participate, and they offer lots of variety in both classes and extra-curricular activities

Our 10 yr old daughter has been taking classes with the Wood's since last summer and she absolutely loves it! It's a good thing, because Mom and Dad love it too. Not only is it helping our daughter to get and stay in shape, but is teaching her the sport of TaeKwonDo as well as patience, respect for herself and others, discipline, and self defense. It not only teaches at an individual level, but also promotes teamwork. This isn't just another activity to put your kid into, it's a mind, body, and soul enriching experience. We are so happy that we found JP Wood Martial Arts and are uber grateful to

JP Wood Martial Arts has something for every member of the family. My kids started out in the Dragon class for 4-6 year old - which was martial arts with a lot of gymnastics, fun, discpline and learning all mixed into one. Later they moved on to Youth Classes and now my oldest son is a Second Degree Black Belt in Koryo Gumdo and is an assistant teacher for Gumdo Youth and Adult classes. He has learned so much about Health, Nutrition, Exercise and has also developed self confidence and responsibility through his participation at JP Wood MAA. I also take fitness classes at JP Wood. We moved to Palatine last year and found JP Wood Martial Arts America through a friend of my son's, a black belt. We joined based on his recommendation and it has been a great journey. We owe him!
JP Wood has provided a foundation that has facilitated a successful transition to a new community. My son has challenged himself as he never would have before and made friends and had fun.
The instructors know every student and work 24/7 to help them succeed. They offer a balance of discipline and understanding that leads to success.
They understand how to connect with students and challenge them to

My family and I have been training at JP Wood Martial Arts America for many years now. What started out as a birthday present of samurai sword lessons through the Palatine Park district, has evolved into 6 black belts between the four members of my family.
What I appreciate most about the school is the family atmosphere. It is a place where parents can train right alongside their children and come up through the ranks together. I don't think you find that in many other schools.

My son has been attending J P Wood Martial Arts America for about 18 months and it has been a fantastic experience. I was never involved with martial arts as a child and never had a favorable opinion of it, but Grand Master John P. Wood and his team have been fantastic. I am truly impressed by the level of attention they give each student and their ability to work with challenging youth, whether because they are timid or because of attention issues. As you would expect, self-discipline is part of the program, but the staff is never so strict that it is a turn-off to parent or child. While they

Our sons have been students of JP Wood Martial Arts for a long time. Originally they wanted to try martial arts lessons for fun. But they loved it after joining JP Wood and are continuing through the belt ranks. It is a great place for techniques and work outs. They have a good support structure with individual attention. They work with each student about their shortcomings and help to move to the next level. It is a very positive environment. Our sons absolutely love to go there.

In 12 years of classes, I can safely say that JP Wood Martial Arts is not a run-of-the-mill school, and is an extremely positive and fun experience. It has done a large amount for my self-esteem and my health, and I would not be where I am today without the school's constant support and guidance. I highly recommend that anyone interested in martial arts take a look at this fantastic school.
