Kist Livestock Auction
Kist Livestock, is owned and operated by Bill & Jerry Kist. It is one of the largest livestock auction markets in North Dakota selling over 5 million cattle since 1956. HERMANSON/KIST HORSE SALE: Held every Spring the 3rd weekend in March and every Fall the 3rd weekend of September or as scheduled.

When Fred Kist Sr. leased the Morton county fairgrounds in 1942 to begin a tiny livestock auction, he probably had no idea it would grow to become a sprawling, modernized business that currently employees some 40 people. The livestock business was located in South Mandan until 1956, when it relocated, moving to "The Strip" on Memorial Highway in Eastern Mandan.

The restaurant at Kist is a hidden gem of delicious milkshakes and hot beef sandwiches and fries slathered in warm hot well-seasoned brown gravy. The kitchen and wait staff are a delight and clearly have a fun and positive working relationship. Their personalities are genuine, and there are no airs to put on, just great food.
