James Crist has close to 30 years of experience in residential construction - practical experience gained by working at all levels and in every aspect of the business. A graduate of Chico State with a degree in Construction Management, he learned the construction business the best way possible - hands on.

JC Builders is an established, experienced contractor providing additions, remodels, renovations, and complete custom homes for San Francisco Peninsula home owners. We have worked hard to earn and are proud of our reputation for quality construction, exceptional customer service, and ethical professionalism.
James Crist Builders provides the full range of contractor services. We typically begin a project when the design begins to take final form (although we can and do assist in resolving design issues and problems).
From that point forward, we provide a turn-key service, where we manage every step in the construction process including budgeting, scheduling, site preparation, demolition, city permits and sign-offs, subcontractors, engineering, and landscaping - all the steps that apply and are needed to take a project to successful completion.

JCBuilders built our new home in the willows of Menlo Park starting in 2019 and finished in 2020. The house is a craftsman design by the architect Roger Kohler. It is a two story 2600 sf home with a detached 250 sf single car garage.
Unlike other builders, James Christ provided an extremely detailed estimate. All materials and labor were separated and explained while the final cost essentially matched the estimate.
Communication with James was excellent which was important. When issues came up they were discussed and the resolution agreed upon fairly. Planning was very professional and James

We had JCB repair and remodel our master bathroom and are *very* happy with both the process and the result. Jamie is a very down-to-earth guy, open and honest. He was very patient in working through the plans and costs with me (I had lots of questions!) and was willing to make multiple revisions to help us stay within our budget. He referred us to several different vendors for tile, plumbing fixtures, etc., and we were equally happy with them (especially Cynthia at Artistic Tile and Stone). Jamie runs a tight ship with both his direct crew and subcontractors. All of them were polite, on-time

James Crist is very easy to work with and he really listens to his clients' needs. For example, because he knew we were budget-conscious, on his own initiative he created a bid that broke down the costs area by area, and he was the only bidder to do this. It was extremely helpful in showing us where the high costs were. He addressed our questions and needs throughout the bidding process.
