Orthopaedic care in Steamboat Springs became whole in 2018 when a collaboration of world-class subspecialty surgeons found an alliance as a team that would become greater than the sum of its parts. The merging of Steamboat Orthopaedic Associates and Orthopaedics of Steamboat Springs into Steamboat Orthopaedic and Spine Institute (SOSI) had been a long time coming and we are thrilled that it has come to fruition.

Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon, Sports Medicine Certification; Fellowship Trained in Shoulder, Elbow and Hand Orthopaedic Surgery. Andreas M. Sauerbrey, MD joined Orthopaedics of Steamboat in 2001. He completed his Orthopaedic Residency at the University of Colorado and subsequently performed fellowship training in shoulder and elbow surgery at the University of Pennsylvania and hand surgery at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.
Dr. Alexander Meininger is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with Certified added Qualification in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine and is fellowship-trained in Sports Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Chicago. Dr. Meininger specializes in sports medicine and minimally invasive arthroscopic techniques, with a focus on joint preservation and knee injuries.

I had an excellent experience as a patient at SOSI. The entire staff was professional, welcoming and explained everything to me thoroughly. The pre-op, surgical, and post-op nursing care was top notch. I'd send any friend or relative to SOSI for surgery. As a nurse myself, I appreciated the great communication between myself and the providers. Dr. Meininger, Khristin Degli PA, and Dr. Kempers all provided excellent care for my knee surgery. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

The staff were great, the doctor I saw was knowledgeable. I called ahead of of my appointment to get an estimate of how much it might cost. I was told that it would likely require an X-Ray so the visit might cost around $400. I got my bill and it was upwards of $600! The X-ray was only approximately $120 of the bill which was completely reasonable. I just wasn't expecting the other $500+ for my 20 min of time with the doctor. I literally spent more time doing the online check-in adding all of my insurance and information to their website than I did in my appointment. Super disappointed with the

I had an excellent experience with SOSI staff from diagnoses, surgery and follow up. Dr. Sauerbrey performed my rotator cuff surgery and I could not have asked for a better outcome. Professional, safe and convenient... SOSI new offices and surgery center is terrific. Great to have my specialist and surgery right here in Steamboat.

My experience with a broken collarbone:
Just under 6 weeks ago I broke my collarbone while mountain biking. I did not have health insurance at the time of this accident so the first thing I did was go to Urgent Care and get an X-ray. The X-ray confirmed that my collarbone was indeed broken and I was instructed by the doc at urgent care to see a specialist at this orthopedic clinic to discuss the possibility of needing surgery.
4 days later I’m in this clinic meeting with a dr to look at my collarbone. They took one look at the X-ray and told me I needed surgery. I explained that I was uninsured

The staff was awful. No communication with family members. The surgeon did a great job, but that’s only half the battle. I (as the spouse) was treated like trash. Not allowed to come in the waiting room, (It’s been a year with COVID I think you can figure out a socially distanced sitting room) no communication about how long the surgery is, what to expect NOTHING! No text updates about being behind schedule or phone calls about when my husband was in or out of surgery. Dr Meininger and his PA Kristin are absolutely amazing. I have had several orthopedic injuries from lifetime of skiing and as a previous gymnast and and had several substantial surgeries in the past with various surgeons across Colorado - and I can absolutely recommend Dr. Meininger as the best surgeon I have ever encountered. He has literally put my knee and shoulder back together and given me my life back.
