Shanahan & Voigt
SV law offers practical, strong, respected advice with depth of perspective, best practices, collaborative expertise, and compassion, thereby providing assurance, comfort, and security to property owners, estates, business, and families. Often there is more than one legal solution. Our attorneys offer practical, customized advice which respects your specific needs and priorities.

The New Jersey attorneys at Shanahan & Voigt, LLC benefit from having roots in the community, familiarity with local challenges to businesses and individuals, and a broad network of trusted professional with whom they collaborate on client objectives. Right to Farm and Zoning Protection in New Jersey The Right to Farm Act provides protections against unduly restrictive local ordinances that would otherwise not permit certain farming practices.
Services
Bob is a founding Partner of the firm, focusing in estate planning (wills & trusts), probate, elder law, guardianships, powers of attorney, living wills, Medicaid applications, Medicaid appeals, and business. Nicole is a founding Partner of the Firm, focusing in commercial, agricultural, and residential real estate transactions, contracts, land use, zoning, construction, landlord-tenant, and environmental matters.
A recent study found that up to one million older Americans are targeted yearly for elder abuse. Family members and caregivers are the culprits in fifty-five percent of all elder abuse cases. Our observations in Hunterdon, Warren, and Somerset Counties in New Jersey are that this estimated number of one million elder abuse cases is understated.
Medicaid is a federal program administered by each state which pays for medical care after assets are depleted. Medicaid is often called upon to pay for nursing home care when the family runs out of money. However, Medicaid generally does not pay long-term care costs for those who do not need medical assistance.
Medicaid eligibility requires a review of assets and spending for a period of five years prior to qualifying for benefits. It is important that families consider loss of Medicaid benefits when managing assets and expenditures. Such Medicaid planning is a routine service for an Elder Law attorney. To apply for Medicaid, a detailed application must be submitted.
Buying and selling real estate involves property targeting, contract execution, due diligence inquiries, contract contingencies, title review, potential government approvals, financing, closing, and post-closing work. It is important that you hire an attorney experienced in real estate, land use, zoning, and municipal requirements to handle your transaction.

Friendly and knowledgeable advice when my landlord told me with 10 days notice that they were selling my apartment. Sometimes lawyers are very short with you on small matters like this but Shanahan and Voigt made sure I understood my situation and my rights!

Ms. Voit is an exceptionally knowledgeable lawyer who gets to the root of the problem quickly. She made a horrible situation bearable and actually saved me a significant amount of money. She did this while making me feel comfortable and supported. I am very grateful to have her as a professional advisor.
Thanks
