What is an orthodontist? An orthodontist is a specialist who can diagnosis and treat dental and facial irregularities. Their years of training are extensive. They must complete college requirements, attend a three to five year dental school advanced training through an ADA accredited orthodontic program.
Soreness From Braces:It is completely normal to experience soreness from new braces or after an adjustment appointment. The feeling will go away within a few days. Poking Tie Wire With the eraser of a pencil, q-tip or the back of a spoon, bend the wire back into place. Call the office for an appointment and if it continues to bother you, dry the area with cotton and cover the poking wire with wax.
It is extremely important to keep your teeth and braces clean during orthodontic treatment. While in treatment, you will also want to keep your appointments with your family dentist for regular cleanings. Patients will come to our office prior to their dental appointment so that we may remove your wires so that you can have a effective cleaning.
Do not place your retainer in boiling water or leave it in hot areas. Retainers can warp and will need to be replaced. Do not bite your retainer into place. Gently put it into the proper position using your fingers. Do not play with your retainer with your tongue. It'll cause the wires to be pushed out of place.
Whether your adult teeth are just coming in or you have previously had braces and have experienced relapse, we are here to provide quality care. On your first visit, Dr. Harper will perform an exam to see if you are in need of orthodontic care. You will learn about the different options in orthodontic treatment such as metal braces, ceramic or "clear" braces, Invisalign and Incognito.
