Services
Owner and founder of Esther's Skin Care and Electrolysis, Esther began her business in 1985 focusing only on hair removal. While helping clients with Hirsutism, she realized the need to treat their skin as well and went back to school to receive her license in Esthetics. Working closely with an M.D. at the beginning of her practice and many years of continuous education has given her the expertise to help her clients with many skin care issues.
Our clinical skin care treatments address skin conditions such as acne, hyper-pigmentation, clogged pores, blackheads, dead skin cell build-up, etc. These facials are corrective procedures and not designed to be relaxing and pampering, they do not include facial massage.

A clinical facial usually consists of cleansing, followed by a deep pore exfoliation product combined with steam to soften clogged pores and comedones which facilitate their evacuation. This clinical procedure allows the esthetician more time to perform necessary therapeutic steps such as keratin-specific glycolic or enzyme peels and very specific extractions performed with sterile disposable instruments, tonic, high frequency and a calming mask.
Electrolysis is a way of removing individual hairs from the face or body. Today's medical electrolysis devices destroy the growth center of the hair with chemical or heat energy. A very fine probe is inserted into the hair follicle at the surface of the skin. The hair is then removed harmlessly with forceps.
Whether you are looking to maintain your healthy skin or heal dry and cracked hands, the cosmetic and healing benefits of a paraffin treatment are numerous. The opening of pores and removal of dead skin cells will rejuvenate the appearance of your skin and make your hands feel silky and smooth. The paraffin wax acts as an emollient, which helps trap moisture in the skin and conditions the skin on your hands, and your nails and cuticles.
Galvanic current allows active ingredients to penetrate deeply into the skin for visible and lasting results. Micro-circulation stimulates and oxygenates the cells providing an antibacterial and antiseptic effect to heal the skin. A light pressure massage with smoothing movements helps to relax the face and promote a radiant glow.

I have been getting monthly facials from Esther for close to 25 years. She never fails to amaze me with her care and concern for her clients. She is very professional, has a vast knowledge about skin and what products to use, and is always up to date with the latest trends and equipment for exceptional results. Her office is very clean, welcoming and convenient to reach. I highly recommend that you give her a call and see for yourself.

Let me start by saying my mom was an electrologist so I had a little more insider information than most when I was trying to find an electrologist in Chicago. I've been to 3 electrologists in the city, and Teri is by far the best. She's the only one who really listens to my concerns, is patient and proactively educates me about how best to take care of my skin after treatment. In other words, she seems like she really cares. I am very pale and have very sensitive skin & Teri has been extremely cautious about making sure she doesn't ruin my skin. The others I went to tended to

It seems like most of these reviews are for electrolysis which I do not need. I come for the facials and Esther is fabulous--THE BEST! She explains what she's doing and educates you on skin care, offers samples but doesn't push products. The office is clean and fresh and it's a very relaxing experience. I'll be back soon...

I've been going to Teri for a little over a year and the results are outstanding!

When I turned 26, all of the blonde/lighter hairs on my face began growing in very dark and coarse. Before Teri, I was tweezing 20-30 minutes, twice a day. My skin was beginning to damage and scar - I knew I needed an effective and permanent solution.

My dermatologist advised against laser hair removal for the face - as it's not 100% effective and most hair will continue growing back. Electrolysis was his strong recommendation for permanent removal - and it has worked!

I started with 60 minute sessions

I haven't been here in years since they moved to a different location making it much harder for me to get to but I must say this place is the best! Terry is super professional & knowledgeable and makes you feel super comfortable when working on your problem areas. As far as price it is a little pricey but I think it's like that everywhere you go especially the downtown area

I have been with Esther for a while seeing 3 electrologists before her. She is the only one who was skilled and knew how to really make hair go away for good. I am wrapping up treatments now. Not only is she incredibly adept, fairly priced, she runs a professional business where you never have to wait to start your appointment. To boot, she is just a lovely person, fun to talk with, really cares about people. Look no further for an electrologist, she is the one to see.

If you are wise, you will not go to Terry Matthews for electrolysis.

During the first appointment, Terry explained to me that due to my being biracial (black/white) I am not a candidate for laser and my skin will burn. Now, either she is a liar or not as knowledgeable as she should be. I have started making appointments with Eternal Youth Spa. Not only is the laser hair removal cheaper, faster, and more efficient, it is also $45 cheaper than the hour service given from Terry.

If you have darker skin (Black, Asian, Hispanic) do not allow her to lie to you in order to retain your services

I am half jewish with a huge jewish fro & the accompanying bodyhair that goes with that privilege. My husband is actually a cosmetic surgeon with a laser machine in his office to do laser hair removal. My opinion is that electrolysis is the ONLY way to get rid of coarse hair permanently. Mine is coarse and blonde, so laser was NOT working for me.

It is a blessing to have found Esther's clinic. She and Terry are the most professional, lovely, and together women I have met in a long time. I always feel great going in their clinic -- it's a no frills, get down to business, and do GREAT

Well, I don't need electrolysis, but uh...a FRIEND of mine went here to get some. She said it was less expensive than the electro places in Lakeview, and that Esther is very nice and works quickly. The only thing I didn't like...uh, I mean SHE didn't like about Esther's was that they preferred cash over credit cards. But for $25 and 15 minutes, she was transformed into the Un-Bearded Lady.
