After a satisfying career in high-tech, and decades of weekend refinishing, I undertook a concentrated study of correct and appropriate antiques restoration. Wood furniture is my area of focus. After several years of practice, in 2004 I began charging for my work. Since then I have restored hundreds of items ranging from 18th Century chairs up to 20th Century coffee tables, including remediation of fire damage and flood damage.
Several years ago I came across this tool in an old antique store. The proprietor didn't know what it is either. I'm sort of a toolhead so I had to buy it. I have asked around numerous times, but the best guess I have heard is that it is some kind of tool used in Cooperage (Barrel Making). If you could tell me what it is called and how it was used, please use the contact form or email me at lfromme@comcast.net.
