The Turnip Truck Natural Market
Founded by John Dyke in 2001, the Turnip Truck is Nashville's only full service, locally owned natural foods grocer. As the name implies, our store has farming roots, which run through every facet of operations. We believe in the simple, ancient and timeless power of ethically grown, locally harvested food to feed our communities.

With three stores in the heart of Nashville, the Turnip Truck brings the seasonal bounty of area farms to our neighbors in the city. Our shelves are stocked with the highest quality natural, local and organic foods available. In addition, we are devoted to fostering the success of area farmers and producers, nurturing the future of our food supply.
Services
Our Charlotte Avenue store is located in the heart of the quaint and quiet neighborhood of Sylvan Park and flanked by The Nations and West End neighborhoods. We are a full-service grocer including Butcher, Deli, Bakery and Juice Bar. We also have an extensive Health & Beauty Department with knowledgeable and friendly staff to serve you.
You won't find a more dedicated, educated bunch of local and natural foodies than our Turnip Truck family. We might not be hauling greens on a flatbed, but we deliver the goods daily in the form of friendly service and product expertise. John Dyke originally hails from a working family farm in Greeneville, Tennessee, but he has hung his hat in East Nashville for more than two decades.
Turnip Truck is proud to be one of the largest providers of local merchandise in the Nashville area. Our buying mission is to enrich our surrounding community by providing quality, responsibly sourced products. We stick to the USDA's definition of "Organic Local" food, which is sourced within 200 miles.
Hot Bar items are made fresh, featuring a variety of selections to fit your special dietary needs. Including paleo, low carb, vegan, and vegetarian. Having a party? Ask about our bakery pre-orders, and don't forget to take home a delicious baguette! Our Classic Brine (no added sugar) chickens, are 100% all natural with NO antibiotics, NO steroids, NO growth stimulants or hormones, and are NEVER fed animal by-products.

For the amount of money that I spent the customer service was lacking at the store and the presence of management. I enjoyed the variety and the arrangement of the store. The prices were a bit exorbitant compared to other brands in the area such as whole foods and fresh market in particular the meat section. I was especially disappointed in the service that I received at checkout from an elderly clerk by the name of Sydney. His attitude was extremely nasty and very unwelcoming which prompted me never to return to that turnip truck location. I had a better experience at the Charlotte Pike location

I purchased a bottle of Sea Moss Jel and tried to use it. When I could not use it because it made me sick, I called the store and they refused to let me return it. When you first buy a product you have to try it but they refuse to take it back. My advise to customers be careful what you buy there.

Great local grocery store. There’s always a great selection of healthy food there. The meat selection is excellent. Grab a pack of Broadbents Bacon for sure.
Lots of kombucha, quality produce, and there’s even toiletries. My dog’s favorite treats are also bought here.
The staff is super friendly and helpful.

My absolute favorite Natural Market that fills the need from local organic produce to fresh seafood, GF pies, fresh organic salad bar … hot soups and hot bar. Sushi made fresh daily, extensive grocery items (gf options as well), and the HABA - supplements dept. fulfills all my supplement needs. My go to lines are - Host Defense, New Chapter, Tn. Natural CBD, Hemp, Delta 8, Nordic Naturals!!
Thank you Turnip Truck for always looking out for the health and wellness of our community!! And the staff is so knowledgeable, welcoming and very helpful… triple win 🏆

Well, I'm still trying to fall in love with that place because many people seem to enjoy it, however my experiences so far weren't that amazing. The food from the salad bar was pricy and inedible (I threw it ALL away after the first bite) so I really can't recommend buying lunch from there, you better go to Whole Foods because their hot bar is AMAZING. (Literally my favorite place). And as for the store - it's quite pricy and I'm not sure why. Even regular products that can be found at Kroger, like almond milk, cost like a $1.5 more here. Why? And finally, I came there to get couscous (not the

Pretty disappointing the last few times I've been in. Each time, I've noticed the same things:

- The "best by" dates for the meat have either been on the day I was there, or the next day. They don't seem to update, rotate, or check their meats on display to make sure they're fresh.

- Produce and veggies were very ripe or about to spoil, with no good selections. I noticed this the last 2 times I went in, as if there was no difference or update since the first time.

For how much they upcharge, you'd think the quality would match it, but I'm not seeing

A huge disappointment. For a health food store, their salad and hot food bar is 99% non-organic, overpriced, and terrible quality food.
It takes some extreme talents to make food that is this bad!

Hot food is served cold and cold food is served hot. They do not offer water on tap, so you have to buy bottled water with your meal. This place clearly has no idea what sustainable and healthy mean. Such a shame.

Prices for other items seem higher than other bigger health food stores. Too many non-organic items throughout the store. Basically a regular store with some organic items.

This is probably one of the worst and best places I've worked. I had a couple good bosses but they left. After that the way the administration controls their employees degraded. Managers left because of the way they treat their employees. They also show employees anti-union propaganda. These people are the worst and hide behind the facade of health food. If you only knew the quality of the food. Lol

I love this place but it feels like they have super high turnover. Good selection and worth a stop. The place has always had a weird smell since at least the 90’s.

The prepared food at the turnip truck is just plain awful! I've tried the breakfast biscuits, burritos, meals & desserts.
I give up. I will not purchase another item.
They must not be "eating" or tasting their own food!
Ugh!

3.5/5

I love this place. I really really do. Everything is so organized, it's seems good, it's good for you and the environment. I REALLY LOVE THIS PLACE. The price is what knocks me down.

For example: a healthy brand of chips at a competition store is around 3-5 dollars where here they are 5+ dollars at a minimum.

I know the cost of running this place can not be cheap and I really can't knock them for that at all. I love it. But the price will definitely detour me to going to a nationwide chain versus staying closer.

On the upside, I would definitely pop in frequently for

I love the prepared foods department at this natural market. They have an excellent salad bar, hot bar, soup bar, and deli. The quality is way higher than Whole Foods and way cheaper. In house made lunch items like sandwiches and burritos are mostly only around $5.99. They also have an excellent selection of kombucha on tap. They have around six flavors at any given time and a 16-ounce cup ranges from $3.50 - $4. There is a large eating area upstairs with tables, a drinking fountain, and restrooms.

I saw a lot of complaints about parking in other reviews, but I've never had any issues

Great natural market, but too expensive for your everyday items you can get down the street. I'm all for better produce and fair pricing, and I know that doesn't always mean cheaper, but turnip truck continues to have pricing higher than most grocery stores for their shelves items.

I actually have never bought fresh produce from them just because I know I'd have to make another trip for the shelves or refrigerated items.

They are good for soups and some harder to find organic/natural items, but they are not my go to for regular grocery shopping.

Parking lot attached; gets crowded

I really do love the Turnip Truck. People here are very helpful and nice.I love that this isn't a very large grocery, but that it has more of an intimate feel to it. Lately I've been purchasing my young coconuts and Good Health chips from there. Why hasn't anyone told me about these chips? They're so addictive. Oh & the crunch is amazing! They have pretty simple ingredients (mainly avocado oil, sea salt and potatoes)and delicious. I've included a pic of the most recent flavors that I got. Another one of my recent favs here is their soups. I've been so sleeping

This is the one to go to! Main Branch I think. Way better than on Pine.

This store is larger. If not bakery on location here. Bakery selection will be bigger.

This store went on mass sale one time I came 'to town' I was asking manager she said they go on mass sale about once a month.

Means even if the companies or vendors are all different there is just shelves littered with coupon price tags.

That is a good thing because they are little/way more expensive than Whole Foods.

The selection is better though.

Less generic and more interesting selection. Though don't expect same

Love the Turnip Truck! Local grocery store with a strong commitment to sustainability, local product, and community connections. The organic smoothies and cold pressed juices are sweet and refreshing on a hot day. They have a kombucha bar with refillable growlers. While on the small side they do have a good selection of produce, a hot bar (great soup), and salad bar. I like picking up local goods, like honey and the addictive Nashville Blend lettuce from Greener Roots Farm!

While the "new" building was supposed to offer more space they missed the mark. The parking lot is poorly

I would give it 4 stars with a better parking lot, it's starting to look a lot like Trader Joe's....
I absolutely love the fresh breads made with good whole ingredients. I also like the selection of organic wines. The hot bar always looks great but I've never tried it.
I only give 3 stars because of getting in and out of that place is ridiculous, from the parking lot to the cramped aisles. I hear a new one is opening, I hope parking is better and the layout is done a little better.

Turnip Truck is a great local market in The Gultch area of Nashville. They have lots of vegan products and a good selection of frozen foods and pantry items. Cheaper than Whole Foods with a Trader Joe's vibe. Turnip truck is a great place to go for all your natural grocery needs. Plus they had some free samples!?

Came here with a couple of friends. Nothing impressive, just a regular grocery store like Trader Joe's or Sprouts. Smaller scale. They have a second floor with tables and chairs for dining in. They have a hot bar, a soup bar, a juice bar, a salad bar, they also have a limited fresh produce section and they have reverse osmosis water for sale. Prices are relatively on the higher side.

I tried their soup bar- I had the white chicken chili with cilantro and it was pretty yummy. $4.99 for a medium cup. I pair it with a fresh baked bread . They have a bakery and their cookies are good.

I n The store is better than the old store as far as the size it offers many different varieties of organic and natural foods. The parking is a bit tight and when you coming off of Woodland Street you can sometimes get yourself into a scrape if you're not careful. The seafood section lacks a lot of products and I'm sure it's fairly impossible to keep it in stock as it is hard to get just about anywhere in Nashville. The wine section is a little limited and prices are fairly reasonable however. The store does offer a lot of to go items weather be hot or cold and the beer selection

If the parking at the Turnip Truck is any indication, people in East Nashville are dead serious about their natural food. I've been to this location twice (while visiting from out of town) and drivers often appear almost crazed when entering and exiting the small lot. This hair-raising adventure is what keeps them at 4 stars.

That being said, everything else about this market is glorious! The store has everything you'd want from a local, health food shop. Their deli case, hot/salad bar, and soups made me wish it was closer to lunchtime not breakfast when we were shopping.

I keep TT

What has happened to the former worth of the Turnip Truck. What was once a great little grocery shop has become nothing more than a poorly stocked shadow of its former, cramped self. It is still an expensive place to shop, but it has become just another tiny little store which bears little resemblance to the grocery boutique of yore.

The fruit and vegetable quality has suffered and there appears no real reason why one would continue to patronize The Turnip Truck over Whole Foods, Publix, or even, dare I say it, Kroger.

Tired, limp, expensive produce, and day to day necessities which in some cases

Looking to pick up a few items for Thanksgiving essentials I forgot at Whole Foods, I made my first trip to the Turnip Truck. I've never left a grocery store empty handed in my life, but I guess there's a first time for everything. The store was clean and had some interesting items on the shelves, for sure. But no pies to be found. $7 soy sauce. I hate to draw on East Nashville stereotypes, but arrogant stuck-up shoppers everywhere. I felt completely unwanted and unaccepted as a customer.

So I left, went to the horrible East Nashville Kroger, and actually managed to have a better experience
