Services
Clair & Co was founded by David Clair. He is an antiques expert highly skilled in traditional French Polishing, parquetry veneer work, period appropriate repairs and antique appraisals. He set out on his antiques journey in 1994 at the age of 18 years old. For the next 26 years he would build a reputation in Washington D.C. as a premier artisan in the field of period antique furniture restoration.
Clair & Co has been restoring damaged furniture in Washington D.C. and the surrounding metropolitan area since 1995. We have successfully handled thousands of transit claims in the last twenty five years. We are proud to be members of the nationally recognized Claims Prevention and Procedure Council (CPPC) and offer full transit claim service including 3rd parties.
This table was refinished for a client in N.W. Washington D.C. in the spring of 2019. The kitchen this table is used in has great amounts of light and displays the table very well. This type of service is typically done off site in our studio. Email or call us for details on your project. This table resides in the Presidential suite of The Jefferson Hotel in N.W. Washington D.C.
Antiques are aged by nature and do have inherit flaws and defects that are unique to each item. We do our best to list and describe each items condition as we see it. All sales are considered "as is" with no implication that item will be fully restored unless otherwise discussed and agreed upon prior to purchase.

Update: I left the below review elsewhere, and Dave had the audacity to contact me stating, "One of my employees showed me the terrible review you left on Google. I'm sorry you felt the need to write down such a review over your claim..." That's not an apology for a botched inspection! This company essentially told our moving company that our claim was mostly fraudulent by denying our damages, which thankfully we were able to prove otherwise. Oh, and the table below that I previously said they "beautifully fixed" - yeah, so, after they fixed it (fixed in place

I entrusted Clair & Co with a family heirloom to reupholster. Although I was uneasy about releasing a very important and loved chair, Dave assured me that I was in good hands.
My experience with Dave far exceeded my expectations. Not only was he thoughtful about the importance of my chair, he kept me posted on the status all along the way. He always responded promptly to my inquiries and was very professional. His store manager, Christina, was also very friendly, very informed and professional.

When it comes to inspection's I would avoid David Claire. He came to do an inspection due to damaged items from a move and agreed alot of items were damaged at the time of inspection. He even told me he would hammer out the base of my dining room table, which was bent and unable to put all the screws in and wouldn't go in properly because of the misalignment (and never did fix it) also twisted one of my table legs ( on a different table further chipping and breaking the leg, which I later had to fix myself). When he came back to "repair a dresser/changing table he must have hammered

I don't usually write reviews unless I've had a particularly bad experience, but I would not recommend this place based on the personnel. Upon the initial assessment, David showed up and kept perusing my apartment instead of focusing on the job at hand. Then when he was supposed to come fix it, I took off work and he never showed up. Later, he texted me apologizing that he was at court. I was out of town for the holidays and when we finally connected, he said said he could not schedule for a couple weeks but would contact me when he looked at his schedule.
