The people on staff are supportive and caring - they are just overwhelmed because there aren't enough of them. As a result, the sickest patients get attention and the ones who are self sufficient are left to fend for themselves. My brother has dementia and did not get a shave or a shower for a week, and I suspect his shirt had not changed in that time either. Some of this is because of the short staff, of course. But some of their problems are due to lack of attention to detail. If you ask a dementia patient if the took a shower, they say "yes" even when they haven't seen soap, a razor, or deodorant
