Altadena Energy & Solar was founded by Hans Rosenberger out of a belief that good engineering and financing are important for the development of environmentally friendly solar energy systems and buildings. There is a strong demand for energy savings and 'green power, ' but too few practitioners who understand both engineering and finance.
Hans majored in Physics at Goshen College, and completed his Masters of Electrical Engineering at Penn State. He pursued a career in radiometry-based remote sensing at NASA's Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL) in Pasadena, CA, where he was staff engineer for 5 years in ground- and air-based microwave systems.

Altadena Energy & Solar is a solar integrator that designs, installs and maintains solar electric and thermal system in the greater Los Angeles area since 2008. We are a licensed, bonded and insured contractor (CA License C46 #979146). We also specialize in custom energy management, solar integration and energy storage system to best fit your energy concept, building engineering and aesthetics.
From the sun to your outlet, photo-voltaic systems transform the sun's radiation directly into electricity that you use for your home appliances and electric car. The power generated by the sun keeps your house running as usual, and provides a relief from ever increasing electricity bills. If you lease a system, you pay a monthly bill for the solar power like you do to an electric company, only at a lower price per unit consumed.
Solar panels, or solar modules, can be installed on the roof or ground mounting system in your backyard (as space permits). Solar panels are made up of photovoltaic (PV) cells, which convert sunlight into direct current (DC) power, even on cloudy days! The direct current (DC) power is sent to the inverter, which converts it into alternating current (AC), used by the utility grid and your household appliances.
A solar power system costs about as much as buying a new car, but you are not getting rid of it every 8-10 years nor will it cost you a lot to maintain. A solar power system is for long-term investment of over 20 years, plus it increases your property value. Depending on your location, type of roofing, and design of your system, a typical home installation ranges from 3 to 12 kilowatts and costs between $18,000 to $60,000 to purchase.
For many non-profit organizations, the best way to go solar is through the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA). Altadena Energy & Solar will build, own and operate the solar system for your organization. Your organization will only pay us the energy used each month, just like how you pay your utility bill but at a discounted price.

We talked to about six solar installers before deciding on Altadena. From our first consultation, I was impressed they weren't just trying to make a sale, but were able to provide a fairly comprehensive technical analysis of our project, and recommend some alternative. Our work included upgrading our service panel and service drop point, and wiring conduit around to minimize aesthetic impact. I was impressed they painted conduit to match all the surfaces it ran along, including the roof.

Altadena Solar has installed for my solar panels, a car charger, and a battery back up system. All of them are working well. Additionally, Hans and his colleagues at Altadena Solar have done a wonderful job of working the process thru the county, will all permits and rebates approved and delivered as promised. Altadena Solar is, in my opinion, the Nordstroms of the solar industry. Their products, installation, and customer service are among the best I've ever encountered.

Their quote for a solar panel system was lower than a larger company and I appreciated their more straightforward explanations over the aggressive sales tactics of larger companies. I knew i had an issue with my meter access and their solution was very practical and low cost. The process took longer than I expected due to COVID-19 and the meter issue, but I can't fault them for that. Happy I was able to support a local small business and get the system I wanted.

I shopped around to get quotes and become knowledgeable about solar for my home. Only Aladena Solar & Energy checked all the boxes. Professional. Excellent references. I had very specific design requests; Solar split over two buildings, garage re-roofing, conduit runs had to be through our attic or basement and underground, along with specific panels and components.
Out of 6 bids, many glossed over the details (leaving their bids suspect) or only used their designs and components.
Not only did AE&S do it exactly right, of the final contenders, theirs was the best price!

This is a great company. We've been running for two months now on a 21-panel residential install done by Altadena Energy & Solar. The entire install process took about a month from agreement to install to PWP permit. The panels work great, our electricity bill is almost nothing, and they have been very responsive to any questions we email them. We really like that they're a local business and close by. And also that they're willing to provide datasheets and hardware specs for all the equipment installed.

Hans and Joy are an absolute pleasure to work with. Hans did an extremely thorough job making sure I understood every aspect of the quote and proposal that they put together and made sure I understood what the trade-offs would be given various panel placement options on my particular roof. He and his team also worked with me on installing an upgraded roof coating material and doing an electrical upgrade that I had been considering for a while, and with my new cool-roof white coating, my home is much cooler in the sun than it used to be and I don't have any roof leaks anymore!

Hans designed and oversaw my solar system; we went live in fall 2016. He did all the legwork re the permit, dealing with the LADWP and the rebate application. Was most polite and helpful at explaining the solar process to someone who had never had any solar experience before. My electric bill is now only $11.00/month.
