Over the years we have been commissioned to make hundreds of custom pieces, ranging from kitchen to conference tables, benches, free-standing cabinets like bookcases, bar and kitchen counters. This is the first service we offered at the mill, when Steve was working commercial construction thirty-five plus years ago he was sawing logs for clients on evenings and weekends.
Before that my Grandpa designed and built our planner from another plainer and combine, yes you heard me right a combine. Timber framing can take many forms whether it be the entrance to an estate or business, a pergola, gazebo, a great-room, porch or a grand front door entry. Mantles are one of the things we have been doing the longest here at the mill.

Steve Timm (or Dad to some of us), started Timm's Lumber & Sawing while he was working commercial construction in the 80's. The first thing we offered was custom sawing which Steve did on evenings and weekends. Steve is a husband to Peg Timm, and a father to four boys Joe, Jeff, Matt, and, Jake. In 2018 Jeff purchased Timms Lumber and Sawing and is the Sole Owner and operator.
What is custom sawing you ask, well good question. More conventional mills are sawing either giant orders for a company or they are milling material to sell to other mills, whole-sellers, or lumber yard's across the state or country, in other words, they don't typically deal with small orders like a tree down in a homeowners yards.
Most homes today are built with the conventional or "stick Framing" method definitely a fast way to build. In this method, all of the structure and supporting members are hidden from sight. With timber framing the opposite is true, all of the structure is exposed and visible. In conventional framing, the building is built from the outside in.
Live Edge is the face of the tree, the outside, where the bark would be if it were still living. This style can have lots of character and knots, or pitted with worm holes, or be fairly uniform. We typically have customers come and select the specific piece they want. We have even had several customers bring their own log to have us turn into a mantle.

I had asked Timms Lumber and Sawing to make us a custom mantle for our fireplace and they did AMAZING!! We love our mantle! They were upfront on their timing and expectations with us! They even came out to double check angles/measurements, made a prototype/sample before creating the actual mantle! I was very impressed with the craftsmanship and work! I would say that stopping by to talk to them was easier than trying to work thru things on the phone. I would recommend them for woodworking needs! Love supporting a local business!!

Joe really saved the day! Flooded basement damaged section of oak stair skirt on our 35+yr old house. Reno company ripped off with no thought of how to replace. When they gave up trying to find replacement (because it doesn’t exist) I started calling lumber companies and was referred to Timm’s Lumber and Sawmill. Since we only had partial piece for pattern, Joe came out and took measurements, fabricated a perfect match, had it stained to match and installed it. And all on the timetable he promised. A real craftsman and a pleasure to work with. Highly recommend!
