After graduating from Kansas University with a B.A. in Biology, she attended and graduated from Indiana University School of Optometry in 1995.
Sight threatening diseases such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and others often have no outward signs or symptoms in early stages, which is why eye exams, including a thorough retinal evaluation, are so important to protect vision.
As the most important development in eye care in the last decade, this advanced technology can help detect potential vision threatening diseases in their early stages when they are most treatable.

Annual eye exams are vital to maintaining your vision and overall health. Ammel Optometry offers the optomap Retinal Exam as an important part of our eye exams. The optomap Retinal Exam produces an image that is as unique as your fingerprint and provides Dr. Ammel with a wide view to look at the health of your retina.
This test is invaluable in detecting peripheral defects of the eyes and monitoring eye diseases, such as glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy or macular degeneration, and detecting diseases of the body including diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. Our office has acquired a new and highly sophisticated computerized instrument enabling us to provide detailed images from the back of your eyes.
