Flying Squirrel, located three miles out of town on the Talkeetna Spur, is open year round with expanded hours during the summer months. In addition to our warm, inviting dining room, almost everything is available for take out and we have a small outdoor seating area surrounded by local forest. A trail out the back door leads to Talkeetna Lakes Park, just a 10 minute walk or ski.
Flying Squirrel holds many events. Subscribe to our newsletter and watch for updates on Facebook to find out about monthly art shows, special farm-to-table dinners, Mother's Day Brunch, baking classes, the annual family Gingerbread House Workshop and many more. Local and Alaska based musicians play a live jazz set on Wednesday evenings from 6-8pm throughout the summer.
Flying Squirrel Bakery is located in Talkeetna, Alaska a vibrant community rich with natural beauty, arts and outdoor activities, families and schools, engaging people and yes, lots of tourism! Susitna, Talkeetna and Chulitna Rivers converge near our small village. If you do nothing else outside while in Talkeetna, PLEASE go down to the river at the end of Main Street!
We use organic and Alaska Grown ingredients as much as possible and strive to create something for everyone - carnivores, vegans, gluten free folks, children and people with (not severe) allergies. Take a look around in our shop, there are almost always extras and specials not listed here! Check out our new online ordering system!
We offer a classic espresso bar menu starring organic, fair trade Alaska roasted coffee beans from K-Bay Caffe in Homer. All natural sodas and juices, high quality loose leaf teas and a unique selection of beer and wine are always available. For a perfect accompaniment to wood fired pizza, ask which Alaska beers we have on draft.

Anita has been the kindest and most compassionate person to our daughter with allergies. For years and has been willing to help us navigate which foods will work for her. Every time we go in, everyone is so friendly and kind. From having the best bread, gourmet snacks and meals, to selling local farm fresh vegetable, our family highly recommends you check it out.

As soon as you walk in the smell of the fresh baked goods draws you in. They have a good assortment of things to choose from and it's a nice pit stop. I got the Classic Sunday and was pleased with the quality of the smoked salmon. There was a generous amount of salmon atop a spread of cream cheese, tomatoes, and fresh microgreens. The whole grain bagel it was in was also amazing. It had a nice texture to it.
I also got to try the Cafe au lait and barley chaga tea. Chaga is a mushroom that has antioxidant benefits. It tasted slightly earthy but not so earthy to deter you. I loved it and plan

Love this place! Just outside of town so not as busy as places right in Talkeetna. Nice covered and uncovered outdoor seating spaces. Their wood fired pizzas (I think they do these Wed-Sun nights?) were on-point! Plus they serve draft beer, icing on the cake to go with your pizza. We got a loaf of oatmeal bread to-go for breakfasts (and a brownie), both were so good. Great place!

A nice little hip cafe in the middle of nowhere. Both indoor and outdoor seating. Service was reasonably speedy. You do have to clean your own table after. All the food we had (creamy tomato soup, green salad, roast beef sandwich, and chili) were quite good. Their bread was excellent too, nicely paired with the soup. Has good amount of parking space.

I get the mission here, and I can appreciate it - it's health food - but given the dearth of options in Talkeetna you kind of hope for something a little more accessible when travelling with children, like say, fountain soda. Prices are always inflated in AK, and moreso in areas outside of Anchorage, but here especially the "daily salad" for $12 seemed particularly high, given the content (maybe a half ounce of cheese, 6 olive slices a couple carrot and cuke slices and some lettuce). That said the flavors were good, particularly considering the fresh aspect, and you can't help but be impressed

Nice cafe in Talkeetna with plenty of healthier options. Came here for breakfast this past weekend. We ordered ahead online which you can do through their website--I recommend this especially during the busy summer months! Everything was hot and ready for us when we arrived. I got the not-a-breakfast burrito which I didn't ask but based on the ingredients I'm pretty sure it's vegan. It was delicious and filling. My husband got the smoked salmon bagel and really enjoyed it. Good coffee too, and my husband got their house made rhubarb soda which was great. I've been here once

Would give this bakery negative stars if possible. Ordered a breakfast sandwich on "fresh" French baguette with poached eggs and cheese. Sandwich came out out cold, as in refrigerator cold. There was no cheese on it. When I asked if they could heat it up, they microwaved it and returned my $8.00 sandwich to me. It was completely inedible, as the eggs had turned to rubber and I could not chew through the bread. Unbelievable!

Grabbed lunch here, which included fancy grilled cheese , chicken soup and African nuts soup. The food was alright however, I really enjoyed the birch tea and small treats such as tea cookie and rugelach we bought..would definitely recommend stopping here for tea/snacks..I could also see that bread was being freshly baked and the staff was really nice.

As a group we tried several made to order and bakery items - they were all delicious. Non bakery items are very vegan/vegetarian focused and would need alot of customization for some palettes. They do have lots of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options. We purchased a walnut cinnamon swirl bread that we made french toast out of - it was good with the exception of the top that was quite burnt. The only coffee beverage purchases by our group was good, but we had enjoyed alotmof coffee that we thought was better as we travelled throughout Alaska. Good location and clean bathrooms.

We heard about the Flying Squirrel from the locals and tired it out today. They had drinks for the whole family which was great.
I had an Espresso with white mocha drink with their homemade bread.
I was very impressed with their organic espresso, it was bursting with flavor and earthy. My my opinion so much better than Starbucks.
Since it was a bakery I always wanted to try their bread. The bread was incredible with warm, soft and filled with nuts and soft apple desert of some kind, it was delicious!
My only critique would be that the inside was a little small it did have a big relaxing and

Not friendly at all, poor customer service. Dining room isn't open so they expected us to stand outside to wait for food. Got a couple of berry bars while we waited for pizza and they were bland. Pizza crust, which is apparently whole wheat (hello, belly ache), was somehow very very burnt and soggy at the same time. Very little flavor.

Wow, I haven't reviewed the Squirrel?! What is wrong with me?
This is THE best pizza in Talkeetna, easily. It's some of the best pizza in Alaska.
DISCLAIMER: pizza is not always available, only for pizza nights.
Pizza nights are: Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 4-9pm
You have been warned!
If you can't make a pizza night they also have great grab-n-go baked goods, some of the best in the area.
Employees are vigilant about cleanliness and mask-wearing, outside seating was available!

Very yummy for breakfast! We had the Good morning sunshine sandwich and the Talkeetna toast and both were wonderful! The sandwich was just a good breakfast sandwich and the micro greens on the toast were great. The latte and hot chocolate were a little heavy on the milk-taste (not so much coffee or chocolate flavor) but still nice to have with our food. Love the art on the walls!

This is my favorite place in Talkeetna, and in my opinion a must stop in the little town. It is not located downtown, but a few miles before off the spur road. It is an unassuming little log cabin place, but they put out some delicious treats. The cafe, like the town, has a relaxed hippie vibe to it. For a smaller cafe they have quite an extensive menu of breakfast, and lunch items. Everything I have tried has been carefully crafted, and is loaded with lots of fresh ingredients.
They use fresh grown, and local ingredients whenever possible. They support Alaska grown, and also have a selection

We found this adorable log cabin-style cafe on our drive about three miles from downtown Talkeetna right at the Mile 11 marker. Their sweet bakery cafe name and location amid the Alaskan forest piqued our curiosity, so we decided to stop in for brunch.
There were lots of parking in their lot for cars as well as a few RVs. We were able to get a parking a couple cars down from their walkway entrance thankfully since the rain was coming down pretty hard. The restaurant had a very nice, comforting atmosphere with very friendly staff greeting us behind the large counter. They offered a cute vegan
