Our special Southern grapes are native to the coastal Southeastern USA and are cousins of bunch grapes. Muscadines are an American grape with a European name! How confusing!?!?!? The Galbreath family buys only the finest & freshest muscadines from Mississippi growers for our wines, and continues its heritage of winemaking, using the most advanced techniques to capture the true essence of the fruit.
Services
Old South Winery, Natchez, MS, was founded in 1979 by Scott O Galbreath Jr, DVM, and his lovely wife, Edeen. Dr. Galbreath, Doc, remembers helping his Grandmother Vic make muscadine wine when he was a teenager; right across the street from the winery's present location! Doc and his favorite cousin, Louise, went to the woods, shook the vines and brought their juicy bounty home to learn at the feet of their German grandmother.
Back in 1979, the Mississippi state wine consultant advised Dr. Galbreath to make mostly dry wines, "nothing sweeter than semi-sweet!" Old South Winery now offers 9 muscadine wines in red, white, and rose' in varying sweetness levels, from dry to lightly sweetened, in addition to one blueberry wine.
Our red wines are unique to most other reds because we do not use wooden barrels for aging; we use stainless steel tanks! For thousands of years wine was made in pottery or skins, so that the wine tasted fruity. The French started barrel aging in the 1400's thus turning fruity wine into something else.
Unlike red wines, white wines are made using fresh juice right out of the press with no fermentation on the skins. We use the most careful winemaking practices to yield truly fruity wine. Lightly sweet and delicate like Gewurztraminer; a great wine to sip while you relax yet not too sweet to go with spicy food; for many people this one is "just right!"
Our #3 seller; similar in color and sweetness to White Zinfandel; great with party foods, desserts, or fruit; an excellent wine for everything or just for enjoyment! We suspect most Southerners drink for fun! Words can not adequately describe how delicious this wine is! Made with Mississippi grown blueberries, we have truly captured the wonderful aroma and taste of blueberries.

Great tasting Muscadines wines. The dry Noble is very tasty. If you think of Muscadine wine as sweet and yellow this will change your mind. Very friendly owner willing to share a lot of "Muscadine Knowledge".
My wife and I have been to over 100 small winery tasting rooms around the country, Many of them are amazing in what a vision and a desire to make good wine can do The tasting room has a few opportunities to increase the appeal to a broader audience, but if looking for a "local gem", this is the place.

Nice family ran business. Started by grandparents in 1979. Definitely a place to go. Mississippi grape Muscaline. Loved the heat. Great wine from dry to sweet. Took the tour with son of originals. Tasted wine with grandson Scott. Had a glass of wine with family and staff after. Nice afternoon. Very nondescript but good product.

Wasn't sure what to expect other than I wanted to drink a glass of wine in the vineyard and relax. But that's not what you can do here. You do, however, get free wine tastings and if you like sweet wines then you're in for a treat.
The vineyard is very old and small that you can see from the street.
When you walk in, it's like going in someone's tiny home then through another doorway to the tasting room. Being form California and tasting all over the Napa and Sonoma Valleys, this was quite different on a much smaller scale. I thought the place was really messy and

Great stop for purchasing and taste testing local wine. Learned some very interesting and informative things about muscadine grapes and its major health benefits! They make all their wine with them so you can feel good about drinking this wine! I also bought the muscadine pills for my dog and myself to help with inflammation. Great prices and wonderful service. A must try in Natchez!

The muscadine wine here is divine!!! My personal favorites are Miss Scarlett, Blue Bayou, and Blueberry Thrill! Plus the gift shop has so many fun wine trinkets! And the best part is the genuine folks that own and run the winery, especially Diane, what a special lady! This California girl highly recommends stopping by for a taste, you'll be welcomed with open arms and warm smiles!

Natchez is by far my favorite destination city when i want a quiet getaway in the south. The Old South Winery and I met in the mid 90's. I go back any time i am in Natchez. They have a great breadth of muscadine wine from semisweet to dry. My favorites are southern belle, sweet magnolia and miss scarlett. I would disagree with Jerry B that they have sweet trash wines. The wine making style that they use is different, there is no oak aging involved and you get to taste the entirety of the fruit. It is just like saying there is only one way to make a good car and if it is not made like

Considering the neighborhood we had to get through to get here, and the outward appearance and inside of the place at first, we weren't expecting much. We were quickly pleasantly surprised by the friendly, knowledgable staff and interesting tour. Enjoyed the wine tasting, although I'm not a wine fan. It was definitely an experience, and a unique one at that. Their Sweet Magnolia wine is actually not too bad! Plus, the tour and tasting is free!

Pretty cool place to visit! The winery is still family owned! All of their wines are made from Muscadine grapes, if you don't like sweet wines then you won't like the wines from here. In addition, they make preserves and hot sauce. I left with the blueberry and pepper jelly preserve and will be back for more.
