ChoiceMART
Kealakekua Ranch traces its roots to Henry Nicholas (H.N.) Greenwell's arrival in Hawaii in the 1850's. H.N. launched a successful general store supplying necessities to a growing island population. Today, H.N.'s great-grandchildren carry on the family tradition of supplying goods and services to the community through their independent, family-owned and operated shopping center and ChoiceMART Supermarket.

Established in 1881, Kealakekua Ranch was one of the larger cattle ranches on Hawaii Island covering nearly 12,000 acres. One of three cattle ranches owned by H.N. Greenwell, historic Kealakekua Ranch is steeped in the cowboy culture and ranching heritage of Hawaii.

4 stars for their deli supermarket poke/ availability. I had a craving, and it's open until 10pm, and it was pretty good fresh tasting poke at half the price of others (IDC ab rice that much anyways)

I took my disabled friend to shop there. The employees were more interested in talking to each other about whether they were going to have internet at home than informing customers that the ebt was down for the whole store. Their excuse was that they had signs posted. There were no signs when we arrived. One register had it posted, making it look like that particular register was down. The other register had the sign facing the cashier! They should be verbally letting people know not just placing signs that blend in with other signs in that mess of a place. Luckily, I could pay for her groceries

This is a small grocery well outside the tourist areas. So mostly locals shop here. It is a typical grocery store. Meat counter, dairy section, produce section, etc. Nothing really special about it, but maybe a little cheaper than someplace like KTA.

Worth a stop if you're driving by anyway. They may have some items you can't find at a bigger chain.

We stopped here looking for Loko Wraps, but that must have closed. So, I popped in a found great poke. This store is low key and the staff were friendly. It was not a mad house like the stores closer in to town. Loved it.

Remarkable selection. Lots of interesting local items and hard to find ingredients for cooking various foreign cuisine. Helpful staff. As others have noted, pricey compared to what we're used to on the mainland.

Nice small town store, where the locals know where the good coffee brew is at, and staff is good natured about cleaning up the spills. The meat selection is very good.

Stopped by while driving down the highway because we had never heard of a Choice Mart before. It's a super small grocery store but seemed to have everything you'd need if you live or are staying in the area. We did by some baked goods because they looked so good! Glad we did because it made for some tasty afternoon snacks! Just sad we didn't make it in before they sold out of malasadas!!

I love grabbing food at the deli before or after beach day! Not only is it reasonably priced but the simple plates put together seem to stick to your ribs, that doesn’t cost an arm & a leg!! The produce is always fresh along with a good CHEESE selection!! 👌 Not to mention I picked up some French Baguette 🥖 for $1.29!!

Love this store, have been coming for 4 years. This morning, I was sipping my coffee so I had my mask down to my chin and some older haole dude aggressively berates me to put my mask on or get out. Being a decent human being and talking normally to people who support your business has apparently gone out the window. Customer beware. You are a slave and a criminal in the eyes of these colonizers.

Unbelievable commitment even to potential customers. I flew into Kona and faced a 14-day mandatory self-quarantine, so I tried to place an online order for ChoiceMart to deliver to me. For some reason, none of my cards would work, so I called the store and asked if there's anything that can be done.

The flexibility and creativity of the manager didn't cease to amaze me for the two days she spent coming up with options that might work for me. Birdie went above and beyond my highest expectations to find a solution to a problem that shouldn't have been hers to solve in the first place

My fathers account from today copy and pasted from him (he does not have yelp) :

"Great store, nice selection of many local items including fantastic fresh poke ! Be careful in produce dep, younger local guy, super agro, smashing dep doors with cart 3x harder than average upset ppl. Then 2x before we left the area saw/heard him say "moving cart!" Then without even looking up aggressively pushes the cart about 3ft. I'm thinking Wow!? What if kapuna were right there ? "

One of the best grocery stores on the island. Love the poke that's prepared and available by the pound. Good beer selection, decent wine availability if a bit overpriced.

This is our usual grocery store. Lots of variety in local, Asian and mainland foods, fresh and pre-packaged, moderately high prices. Bit of an older store but clean, well stocked and people both working and shopping there are very friendly and helpful. The restroom is in breezeway / walkway between this store and Ace Hardware. Nice grocery store for those of us South of Kona.

It's a bit of a drive from Kailua Kona, but it's worth it. Choice mart is a small supermarket, similar to their KTA. From produce to seafoods, We went here to get the chantilly cookie sandwiches. It was introduced to us at a family party and everyone loved them. My father in law loved them so much he even went there at opening before 6am and waited for it, but he was told they weren't able to make it until after 8am so he reserved some and came back later In the day. The cookie sandwich has the right crunchy taste and the chantilly icing in the middle is sweet. It's very popular

Uhh great poke for just $9.99 a bowl. Which includes a ton of rice the poke and a choice of vegetable. I got the sesame ahi poke with kimchi cucumber and you must get it! The cucumber what actually my favorite part but the poke was delicious and worth it.

Yes it's a grocery store BUT it's probably the best poke I've had the entire trip and the price is well worth it

They're expensive, obviously, and that's not awesome. But they do have an awesome organic section, and great local produce. And that's important to me. I prefer their selection over KTA. And the employees have always been friendly!

In the 1800's Greenwell General Store existed.
Today, you will find a newly remodeled historic supermarket.

Independent, family-owned and operated by the Greenwell's, ChoiceMART, for the past 18 years, has been the only grocery store that serviced south Kona. Last week, KTA, a competitor moved in, down the street.

Competition is a good thing.
ChoiceMART needed to be updated and remodeled. In 2017, the transformation began. It is still underway.

I enjoyed the warm welcome of the fresh cymbidium orchids that now grace the entrance. The pastel color varieties were appropriately

This is our second "Baby Moon" on the Big Island and this time we decided to stay on the Kona side of the island. My Husband booked us a nice little beach house in Captain Cook which is a little ways out from the business of Town. We needed to grab some baby items for our Son one afternoon and looked up the nearest Grocery Store to us and ChoiceMart was it! We were pleasantly surprised to find there was a good amount of parking. When entering the grocery store we were greeted with friendly smiles from the Clerks and while making our rounds through the store we got stopped at least twice

Nice place , however , park behind it not in front otherwise you have to climb stairs .
Is a nice store, clean and quaint, lots of food options like deli stuff.
We were there the day it was pouring so we got really wet. They have paper bags but prefer you take your own, we had to ask for bags .
The clerk didn't offer to bag for us. Not a bad thing we are capable just different than Home.
We got our vegetables here , with rat lung worm , we opted to not buy from the locals. We still washed all our produce .
106$ but that saved us this week from always eating out . Bologna sandwiches each

This is the most convenient grocery store to south Kona. The selection is decent, the prices what you'd expect. We were there to visit the deli for cheap food stuff to go. On our first visit, near supper, the deli was well picked over but we still found a little bento of chicken and rice, prepacked salad, and avocado wraps. And beer, for my husband. Our next visit was at lunch as we headed out of Kona, and the deli had more to offer, including different sizes and kinds of spam musubi.

People who tend to complain about the prices probably do not live here. Visitors will be shocked, our prices are higher than the mainland. Choicemart is of course more expensive than big box Walmart or Safeway. Small businesses always are, and have to be. I'm just grateful they haven't folded (a la Kamigaki)

I know in advance to buy milk (or any of the other really high priced items) when I am in town or at Costco. Other than that, I love the produce and shopping at Choicemart, and I love the convenience of only having to drive 3 minutes from home as opposed to 30 to go all the way to
