Surgical Residency at the Foot Clinic of Youngstown, associated with Youngstown Osteopathic Hospital. Dr. Scales and his wife, Julia, have been married for over 30 years and have two grown daughters. He has a passion for the outdoors and very much loves to ski with his family and friends. He also enjoys hunting and fishing in the Colorado Rockies as well as playing some golf.

Our feet continually expand and contract as we move around. The plantar fascia is a band of connective tissue along the bottom of the foot, from the heel bone up to the toes. It supports the arch of the foot, and stretches whenever we walk. Unfortunately, sometimes our ligaments fail under too much stress, and tearing can occur at microscopic levels within the tissue.
The skin of your foot may be tough, but contains many small cuts, cracks, or other vulnerabilities. Walking barefoot in public areas may leave your feet prey to a number of viruses found around communal pools, footpaths, or showers. The Human Papilloma Virus is fairly common and very contagious, lasting up to several months on its own.
Every once in a while, you may force your feet into shoes a size too small. Or hit your toes head-on into corners of furniture if you aren't paying attention. Or you may be clipping your nails, and cut too close to the skin. Whatever the reasons, sometimes you're left with a nail that starts to curve downward into the nail bed, the skin under and around your toenail.

Dr. Scales is so amazing at his job. He is nice, caring and makes you feel like you are being heard. I had the worst foot pain being on my feet working. In one visit he knew what was wrong and got me custom shoe inserts. Instantly felt better. He is the only doctor I will go to for my feet. Thank you for changing my life Dr. Scales! Oh and not to the mention the lady at the front desk is so nice.

Dr Scales accurately diagnosed my problem with an x-ray and examination in his office. I scheduled my surgery with him at the time of diagnosis.
Amazingly, 4 weeks after surgery I was carrying a 90 pound pack for a two week trip into the Cirque of the Towers. I climbed multiple rock routes without a problem. I never once had any issues with the surgical site even though I put my foot through the ringer both climbing and carrying a heavy pack for many miles. And I am not a young man!
Dr. Scales is a skilled surgeon and Podiatrist. Highly recommended.
