Our school was formed after suffering the devastating loss of our founder, Grand Master Clarence E. West. He passed away suddenly, in November of 2008, in a fire that consumed our karate school in Wintersville, OH. His death was an unexpected shock felt by his students and our community as a whole.
Master West was a beloved teacher and respected businessman who was widely recognized for his unending generosity, self-discipline, boisterous personality and his colorful tuxedos and fedoras. In appreciation for tremendous impact he has had on so many lives, we continue share his legacy by carrying on his Martial Arts System, Wae Kune Do.

West Karate's Pre-School and Youth Martial Arts Program builds a strong foundation in social and emotional learning using realistic martial arts instruction. You will see improvements in your child's attitude; their ability to engage and show empathy towards others; as well as an improvement in making responsible decisions.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Fundamentals Class The practice of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu provides individuals a core skillset and mindset that will benefit them throughout nearly every aspect of their life. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu may be the toughest yet most-enjoyable form of physical fitness, increasing students' strength, flexibility, stamina, balance, and focus.

Just started here after the new year and already love it! There’s a good mix of skill levels and genders on the mats. You can see the family vibe immediately. The instructors are great and very helpful. I’d highly recommend if you were ever even thinking about giving it a try to come in, it’ll totally be worth it and you’ll be hooked!

After trying the other dojos in the area, I have found a new home for me and my family. The rates are very affordable and all the students are very friendly.
Troy (owner, instructor, sensei) is a friendly, down to earth guy that promotes customs, custersies and manners that extend well beyond the mat. His priority is not only to make students good in martial arts but also with the kids, teach them to grow into productive members of society under his tutelage.
Although the name does not indicate it West karate also offers Jiu JItsu. His affiliation with Armezzani BJJ in Monica, PA is a great partnership

West Karate of Weirton is a great place! The knowledge that the owner has is unbelievable and he is very good with instructions making it easily understood for all. Also the atmosphere here from everyone is very welcoming and eager to help much like a family. They also make sure everything is very Sanitized so there are no germs.

Awesome school with a great instructor. Troy Is very engaging with the kids and his teaching style makes it fun even when its tough. The style gives a great mix of traditional karate and practical street smart self defense. Combine that with an awesome BJJ program and it's an amazing value.
I scouted several local schools to find the one right for my kids and almost 3 years later I'm still confident this is the best choice around. The success at tournaments speaks for itself, but how much my kids love it tells me more.
