In April of 1986, Jim Rose decided that something was missing in Orono, Maine. A long-time bicycle enthusiast, Jim opened Rose Bike Shop as a part-time venture based out of his home. In the beginning, Jim was the sole mechanic, salesman, and owner of the business, but soon found that the shop was growing and taking on a life of its own.

Services
The shortage of bikes we experienced in 2020 continues this year. Unfortunately is not forecast to improve until next year and in addition parts are very difficult to source. We are working hard to keep parts and accessories in stock but at times will have to ask for your patience and flexibility. We have bikes on backorder and maintain lists of when we expect various models to arrive.
Until now you have not been able to see what we had in stock from the comfort of your own laptop. Now much of our inventory can be perused on Locally.com. This will not cover all the items in our shop but it is certainly a useful addition. Please check it out-you will also find other local businesses on the site.
Stay up to date by following our facebook and Instagram page and the Penobscot Region chapter of NEMBA! Over the winter we do not have regular rides but please keep an eye on facebook as we will organize rides when the weather allows. We are hoping to be be having some Saturday morning fatbike rides.
Jim Rose spent his childhood in Guilford, Connecticut. He moved to Orono in 1979 to attend the University of Maine and has called the town home ever since. He has two sons, Angus and Cam. Jim's favorite ride is the Dedham loop and his favorite vacuum cleaner is any of the ten or so Electrolux models hibernating in the shop.

They upgraded my old mid-80s 15 speed Peugeot US Express with a new 7 speed freewheel, crankset, derailures, indexed shifters, cables, tires, tubes, etc. It feels like a new bike...except better! Moving into the 21st century has been a wonderful thing. And all was done at a very reasonable price with a lightning fast turnaround time. I highly recommend these folks. They get an 11 on a scale of 1 to 10.

Bought my first "real" bike from Jim during the craziness of the pandemic. Even with the shortages, Jim was able find me a show bike that had minimal miles on it. It saved me in the hundreds. Since then, I have had nothing but great experiences with tunes, minor repairs, and even help with my indoor Wahoo trainer! Cannot recommend this place enough, especially if you are looking to enter the cycling/biking community.

I had been searching for a mountain bike and had visited four bike shops unsuccessfully before heading to Rose. Instead of saying "no" we don't have one, I was directed to a TREK which fit my needs for my gravel roads. Seeing that I was having trouble fitting the bike into my Crosstrek, another employee came to my aid. Great people, great bikes! Thank you.

The service at Rose Bicycle was top notch. Jeremy and Fiona helped me with purchasing my first mountain bike and couldn't be more happier with the experience. I preordered my bike 3 months to receiving it and during that time there was consistent communication and also insights in to any questions that I had regarding the bike and mechanics behind it. You are in good hands.
