According to Wikipedia, a "shut-in" is "a narrow channel because of hard rock and is unnavigable." Johnson's Shut-Ins is on the Black River, which weaves its way through the shut-ins, splashing and churning in a spectacular way. The rock creates a natural waterslide in some areas. This is the most visited state park in the state of Missouri, and the fifth most visited state park in the United States.

Overpriced, rude staff. Came here on Halloween, won't do it again. The staff isn't very polite, definitely needs new management

Excellent campground. I came here solo to take advantage of the hiking around here and going to Johntson Shut In. However this is super family and kid friendly. I will return with the rest of the gang next time.
The campground it self is very well kept. I spoke to the owner, she's very sweet lady and takes pride in her business and campground. Everything is well kept and clean, including the bathrooms. The office allows you to rent free games and sporting equipment for the kids. And every spot is a full hook up!!

We will be back! Great, friendly service. CLEAN bathrooms and showers with plenty of room. Free ice cream social which the kids loved. Quiet, family friendly. Playground for the kids, new pool, river access...very shallow. Small convenience store.

Such a great place to camp! Stayed there for the first time this weekend and very happy worth the experience. The owners are very down to earth, friendly and accommodating. This is the most well maintained and beautiful park we've stayed at. The shower/bathrooms are immaculate!! They even have Wi-Fi!! So happy to have found this gem near all the great attractions in Acadia valley/Taum Sauk area. Definitely going back!

Stayed here over the holiday weekend. The park is 5 years old. They do a good job offering extra for the family. Pool is a bit small but I hope you aren't visiting the area for the pool. They sell you all the firewood you can burn for $3/night so don't waste your money buying it in other places. Come prepared. Very limited dinning out, groceries or ADULT BEVERAGE purchases without driving at least 20 min.
