On Oak Island, where "doing it yourself" is basically the only option, residents have their own version of Brigadoon. More apartments sold in the third quarter than at any other time in more than 30 years, as the New York market continues its recovery. The best ones hold 'any sort of unsightly things' - but they're also interesting pieces of functional art.
